ASK Elektra - First Vienna FC 1894 0:2 (0:1)
Top game at Elektra Platz, the weather was not quite clear, cold wind and occasionally a few senseless raindrops might have prevented a few from visiting the game. Nevertheless, the stadium was very well attended, 1000 viewers came to suport.
However, both teams had to improvise a bit during the line-up, although Elektra coach Alfred Niefergall would have had to do more in this regard, more on that later. Our lineup was no surprise in defense, Ehrnhofer, Krisch, Bartholomay and Lenko. In front of them Tegeltija started, which may have been a little surprising, but due to his achievements in preparation, he was well founded. Stehlik in midfield, on the sides Fucik and Korkmaz, and upfront our two strikers Konrad and Kurtisi. Apart from the injury-related long-term absence from Demic, our top eleven started. We were very focused and dominant from the first minute. Our full-backs pressed right from the beginning. The good thing was that Elektra started very carefully. Due to a yellow card suspension they had to do without their experienced central defender Nemetschek, in this position coach Niefergall improvised with his top scorer Ognyanov. A setup geared towards defensive stability, which was based on the well-known strengths in duel and compact team organization.
Dominant start and early lead
The first chances came quickly, however, as soon as Vienna played quickly and was able to run away the opponent, it became interesting. Fucik, who was very enthusiastic, suddenly appeared in the center and wanted to finish via bycycle kick. He did not get the ball as he wished, so goalkeeper Klar had little trouble with it. The next good action was again via Kurtisi and Konrad to Fucik, whose attempt to pass was intercepted behind the defense. The spectators saw a game mainly in the half of Elektra, in the 11th minute Vienna was able to break loose with a quick combination. Everything worked out this time, Konrad sent Kurtis through on goal to make it 0:1 and increasing his goal talley to 13 for the season.
A perfect start. 2 minutes later, Fucik was pulled off his feet just outside the penalty area by Kalser, a foul dangerously close to the goal, referee Simsek left it with the yellow card. Korkmaz did not agree, started to discuss with the referee and was also warned. Kurtisi circled the free kick elegantly to the corner, but not sharply enough, the attentive Klar was able to ward off. The character of the game did not change, Elektra carefully, sometimes even with a chain of five in the defense, a competitive midfield, from which only Vienna could get away with quick attacks. After about 20 minutes, Korkmaz failed in front of the opposite goalkeeper Klar, a little later Ognyanov got the ball just before our striker Konrad. The strikers of Elektra were not even once in the opposing half until then, probably an indication of a good game by Vienna.
Elektra is getting stronger
Omoighe, Ognyanov's replacement in the attack, tried it hard, but hardly got any promising ball. Until the 30th minute when the fast striker outsmarted the defense and suddenly appeared alone in front of our goalkeeper Kazan. But Kazan remained the winner in this duel. Shortly afterwards Pomeranz tried a long-range shot, which clearly missed the target. Elektra came up a little. Vienna no longer acted with the same consequence of the first 30 minutes. So it was not surprising that Ognyanov attacked for the first time and immediately sought the end. With little success, his shot was harmless, but was still a signal for Vienna not to let the reins slide. Accordingly, action was taken more consistently in the duels and Vienna played more directly in the attack. Fucik came a little too late after a large-scale attack from the left side of Korkmaz, a defender was able to intervene in time, another good approach ended in a misunderstanding between Kurtisi and Korkmaz or Lenko, neither of them had entered the open space.
Fast second goal after the break
With the deserved, but also tight lead for Vienna, the sides were ready for the second half. No changes were made at half time. In the first game scenes of the second half, one had the impression that the home team would now be more offensive. At least in the next scene this was undoubtedly the case, the Elektra defense was positioned significantly higher, which Vienna knew how to use with a steep pass on Fucik. The winger played a ball past Klar who was through on goal to be brought down by the goalkeeper. Kurtisi steped up to take the penalty and made it 0:2.
Changes at Elektra
It was foreseeable that Elektra coach Niefergall would react now. Husseini came for the largely unremarkable Steiner, Nzogang for Pomeranz and of course Ognyanov was ordered into the storm. These changes and probably also a downshift of Vienna now resulted in some attacks by the home team, which were rarely dangerous. Krisch and above all Bartholomay, who won in almost every header duel, kept an overview. Until the 66th minute, when Elektra managed to tear the defense with a pass through a gap in the defense, Nzogang failed on the brilliantly reacting goalkeeper Kazan. The goalkeeper was only able to deflect forward, the ball was ready to fire at Ognyanov's feet, in this situation Tegeltija crowned his performance that afternoon. With a remarkable effort, he brought the ball out of the dangerous area in time. It was perhaps a key scene, the connection goal would have released fresh energy for the home team, apart from a possible uncertainty on our side.
Secure game management by Vienna.
Another tricky situation had to be overcome, Krisch could only illegally prevent Ognyanov from entering the penalty area, the free kick from Brem kept Kazan safe. After that, Elektra struggled to get in front of the goal. On the other hand, Vienna lacked the emphasis on counter-attacks, defensive protection was now clearly a priority. Fucik had to be treated twice after tough duels. The last few minutes were uneventful, the attacks by the locals became increasingly uncontrolled and thus also harmless, the events in injury time mostly took place in the half of Elektra again. With the sound of the Yellow Submarine from the fan sector, it was clear that these three points would go to the team from the Hohe Warte. A win in view of a really strong first half and an economically played second half. The game ends 0:2. We are now looking forward to the home game against SV Wienerberg next Friday. Attention, the game starts at 8:00 p.m.!
