Vienna Women Start Spring Season with Convincing 4-0 Victory
Vienna got off to a strong start in the spring season with an impressive 4-0 win against Wacker Innsbruck. Thanks to a solid team performance, the Döbling side dominated the game from the beginning and created numerous chances. Linda Natter won two penalties and crowned her performance with her first competitive goal for Vienna. Rukavina confidently converted both penalties before Cavic sealed the well-deserved victory with a header towards the end of the match.
Vienna Dominates from the Start
Right from the first minute, Vienna took control of the game on the artificial turf of the Wacker training center. The visitors pushed the Tyrolean team deep into their own half and repeatedly created dangerous opportunities in the final third. Linda Natter stood out early on, making several strong attacking moves, but initially struggled to find the decisive finish.
In the 13th minute, a quick pass from Kovar into the penalty area led to a game-defining moment: Natter was brought down by the opposing goalkeeper on her way to goal – a clear decision, penalty for Vienna. Rukavina stepped up and confidently converted, securing the well-deserved 1-0 lead.
Vienna Continues to Push Forward
The Döbling side maintained their pressure and created further great chances. Just minutes after taking the lead, Kappenberger broke through on goal, but her shot narrowly missed the target. The attacking wave continued: Höcherl got on the end of a header and took a dangerous shot, but the Tyrolean goalkeeper made a great save. The following corner also caused trouble – Seidl found herself in a promising position but was once again denied by the keeper.
Wacker Innsbruck tried to relieve the pressure but struggled to create any offensive momentum of their own. Just before halftime, Seidl had another promising opportunity inside the box, but her shot was deflected onto the crossbar by the goalkeeper’s foot – another outstanding save.
With a well-deserved yet narrow 1-0 lead for Vienna, the teams headed into the break.
Another Penalty for Vienna
Vienna came out of the dressing room unchanged, but the hosts now defended in a more compact shape, leading to fewer chances in the opening minutes. Vienna's first free-kick attempt in the 50th minute sailed well over the goal.
In the 53rd minute, head coach Mark Dobrounig made the first substitution: Wucher replaced Kappenberger. The game regained momentum, and in the 57th minute, another controversial moment occurred in the penalty area. Once again, Natter was fouled, and once again, the referee pointed to the spot. Just like in the first half, Rukavina stepped up and coolly converted to make it 2-0.
First Competitive Goal for Linda Natter
Just six minutes later, Natter had her moment of celebration. In the 63rd minute, she received a well-placed pass from Gutmann, used her speed and physicality to break through the defense, and finished clinically to make it 3-0 – her debut goal in her first competitive match for Vienna.
In the 67th minute, the next substitution followed: Tuschek came on for Gutmann. After that, the game lost some of its intensity. In the 72nd minute, Natter attempted a long-range shot but was disrupted at the last moment, causing her effort to fly well over the goal.
Cavic Seals the Victory
In the final phase of the match, Vienna made a triple substitution: Falk, Puck, and Nemeth replaced Seidl, Höcherl, and Natter.
The final highlight of the match came in the 85th minute with another goal from a set piece. After a precise corner kick, Cavic rose for a header – the Tyrolean goalkeeper got a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out – 4-0, sealing the final score.
A commanding performance from the Döbling side, who, with a dominant display, fully deserved their qualification for the next round of the cup.
