Vienna Amateurs Cement Their Lead at the Top
In the 18th round of the Wiener Stadtliga, the Vienna Amateurs hosted third-placed SC Red Star Penzing. A stunning goal put the young squad on the road to victory early on. In the end, they secured a hard-fought 2-1 win.
Dream Start for Vienna
The Vienna Amateurs came out firing and created several good chances in the opening minutes. One of them found the back of the net in the 6th minute. Following a corner kick, Niklas Alozie was in the right place at the right time and smashed the ball beautifully into the top corner. The Döbling side kept up the pressure, forcing Penzing to rely on quick transitions and set-pieces, of which there were plenty.
As the visitors gradually grew into the game, Vienna suffered a cold shower just before the break. In the 43rd minute, Leon Ritter found the equalizer, sending the teams into halftime at 1-1.
Fierce Battle in the Second Half
Head coach Tuna reacted at halftime, bringing on Dziurdzik for Huskovic. However, Penzing upped their pressing intensity in the second half, putting Vienna’s defense under serious pressure. But just as the hosts were struggling, they struck again. Substitute Alexander Krammer battled his way through and fired the league leaders back in front in the 62nd minute.
Penzing, though, was far from giving up. The Ottakring side responded strongly, pushing forward with determination. Vienna’s defense, anchored by goalkeeper Troindl, held firm. Even in stoppage time, when the four-time Stadtliga champions came dangerously close with two late corners, the blue-and-yellow backline stood strong.
In the end, the three points stayed with the still-flawless spring season leaders.
Coach Gökce Tuna on His Team’s Performance: "The first half was okay. In the second half, though, respect to our opponents—they really made life difficult for us. But we take the three points, and we're happy to have won. Still, we need to improve."
Looking ahead to their next match against SV Donau on Friday, Tuna added: "We started the season with five wins, and of course, we’re aiming to do the same again. We want to build consistency. The goal is another three points against Donau next week."
