Vienna Women Suffer Defeat in Linz
On the final matchday of the regular season, Vienna’s women’s team suffered a 2-0 defeat against Union Kleinmünchen/Blau-Weiß Linz at the Donaupark Stadium in Linz.
Head coach Mark Dobrounig made two changes to the starting lineup compared to the previous week. Amuchie made her first start for Vienna, replacing Hahn in midfield, while Linda Tuschek came in for Falk.
Vienna Dominates but Lacks Clear Chances
From the first minute, Vienna looked to take control of the game. While they managed to dictate play early on, a lack of precision in passing prevented them from creating clear scoring opportunities. The first notable chance came in the 25th minute when Rukavina fired a long-range shot that forced a difficult save from the opposing goalkeeper. Natter’s follow-up attempt also failed to find the net.
Falling Behind Before the Break
The home side had their first real chance in the 35th minute, launching a well-executed counterattack down the right flank. Emily Schimm cut inside from the wing and fired a shot on goal, but Schlimé made an excellent save to keep the score level. However, just before halftime, Vienna fell behind against the run of play. A buildup error gifted the ball to Sisic, who struck a well-placed shot to give the hosts the lead. Vienna pushed for an equalizer in the final minutes of the first half but couldn’t break through, heading into the break trailing 1-0.
Vienna Pushes for the Equalizer
Coach Dobrounig reacted at halftime, bringing on Falk for Tuschek. Vienna immediately created danger in the 47th minute when Wucher’s header narrowly missed the target. At this stage, Vienna was clearly the dominant side, and an equalizer seemed only a matter of time. In the 57th minute, Linda Natter had a great opportunity, but her tight-angled shot was saved. Just seconds later, she again came close, directing a header toward goal from a free kick, but the ball dipped too late, keeping the deficit intact.
Schubert Seals Vienna’s Defeat
Despite Vienna’s persistent attacking efforts, they couldn’t find a breakthrough. In the 74th minute, Rukavina attempted another long-range effort, but her shot sailed just over the crossbar. The home team then struck the decisive blow in the 87th minute. Exploiting too much space on the wing, Schubert finished calmly to make it 2-0, sealing Vienna’s unfortunate defeat.
