A Forest in Blue and Yellow: First Vienna FC 1894 Inaugurates the Vienna Forest
With a festive ceremony, the Vienna Forest was officially inaugurated today. The project is a joint initiative by First Vienna FC 1894, the city of Hainburg, and Vienna’s landscaping partner, Gartengestaltung Miksch. What’s being created here, in the heart of nature, is far more than just a reforestation effort – it’s a powerful symbol of unity, responsibility, and forward-thinking.
A Club with Vision – Planting for the Future
As Austria’s oldest football club, First Vienna FC 1894 is rooted in a rich and storied tradition. But rather than resting on its history, the club is always looking ahead – not only in sports, but also socially and environmentally.
“Sustainability is a core element of our strategy. It’s reflected in every aspect of our club,” explains President Kurt Svoboda. “We don’t just want to be successful on the pitch – we also want to take social responsibility. The Vienna Forest is a tangible step on our path to becoming Austria’s most sustainable football club.”
This season, the club presented its first-ever sustainability report, analyzed its carbon footprint, and began taking active steps to reduce emissions. Going forward, even the stadium experience will be designed in accordance with ESG standards.
1,894 Trees for a Greener Future
The goal of the project is to create a diverse, resilient, and thriving mixed forest with exactly 1,894 trees – a tribute to the club’s founding year. The site is located in Hainburg an der Donau and will be professionally maintained.
Everyone Can Be Part of It – Trees for Eternity
The Vienna Forest thrives on community. Fans, supporters, companies, and individuals alike can take part in this sustainable project by symbolically purchasing one or more trees. For €29.95 per tree, participants receive a personalized certificate with a unique tree number. Each tree is marked on-site and can be visited and admired as it grows.
“The Vienna Forest is a project built on the power of community. Tree by tree, we’re creating something lasting – together with our fans, partners, and friends. I’m truly looking forward to watching this forest grow,” says Kurt Svoboda.
Many trees have already been sold – with both individual supporters and companies getting involved. The positive response shows: the idea of the Vienna Forest is taking root – or better said, bearing trees.
