Vienna Women Face St. Pölten in Cup Semifinal
Next Sunday, March 30, 2025, the Vienna women's team will play in the semifinals of the ÖFB Women’s Cup. As in the previous year, Vienna will face SKN St. Pölten away. The top match will kick off at 14:00.
Vienna Seeks Revenge
In the previous season, the same matchup took place in the Cup semifinals. Vienna kept the game close for a long time. After 90 minutes, with no winner decided, the match went into extra time. It wasn't until the 110th minute when Valentina Mädl scored to make it 1-0 for St. Pölten, securing their spot in the final. In the final, they went on to defeat Wiener Austria and were crowned Cup champions. Vienna is looking for revenge on Sunday for their exit last year.
Vienna Going Through a Tough Patch
The spring season has proven more difficult for Vienna than anticipated. Although they have secured three wins in official matches, several key player absences have taken a toll. As a result, Vienna has lost some ground on the top two spots and enters the championship round in third place, two points ahead.
St. Pölten, on the other hand, has had a flawless second half of the season. Under new head coach Lisa Alzner, they have won every game and extended their lead over Austria. In the Cup quarterfinals, the Wolves defeated Sturm Graz 5-0.
Recent Meeting Brings Confidence
In their last meeting, Vienna triumphed 2-1 at the Hohe Warte. Thanks to quick goals from Fankhauser and Kappenberger, Vienna secured the win. This performance from the fall gives the team the confidence needed for the upcoming Cup challenge. One thing is for sure:
