Vienna Amateurs Crush Slovan HAC with Dominant 5-0 Win
In Round 20 of the Vienna City League, the Vienna Amateurs hosted bottom-of-the-table SK Slovan HAC at their home ground, the First Vienna Football Campus. With a resounding 5-0 victory, the young team moved back to the top of the standings for now.
Vienna Sets the Stage for Victory Early
The Döbling-based team started the match in a controlled and attacking manner, quickly neutralizing the few offensive threats posed by Slovan. Despite the visitors' defense being solid in the first 30 minutes, the match's biggest moment came in the 16th minute with a low shot from Nagele. However, it wasn't until the 35th minute that the Amateurs took the lead, with Vincent Zeidler scoring to make it 1-0.
In the 42nd minute, with heavy rain falling, around 50 spectators at the Vienna Campus were treated to another goal. This time, Louis Birkhahn found the back of the net from a tight angle to make it 2-0. By this point, the Amateurs were clearly in control, and they headed into the break with a deserved 2-0 lead.
Powerhouse Performance in the Second Half
After the break, the game continued to be one-sided. Just three minutes into the second half, Krammer, who had come on as a substitute at halftime, scored the third goal after a pass from Zeidler. At this point, it was clear that the Vienna Amateurs' offensive power was too much for Slovan to handle. In the 52nd minute, the Amateurs made it 4-0 when Stogiannidis scored from a Krammer header. Slovan was completely overwhelmed, and in the 66th minute, Birkhahn added his second goal with a clever lob to make it 5-0. Despite several substitutions, Slovan’s defense seemed utterly lost.
The Vienna Amateurs were still hungry for more, aiming to make it six, but Slovan goalkeeper Filip Hummer had a few good saves in the final moments to prevent further damage. Nevertheless, the 5-0 result was more than deserved, with the Döbling team reclaiming the top spot in the league.
Head coach Gökce Tuna was extremely satisfied with his team's performance: “The boys did very well today. We controlled the game throughout. After this important win, we will continue to push forward.”
Next week, the Amateurs face Hellas Kagran, a team in a similar position in the standings. Tuna also commented on the weather conditions: “The weather isn't ideal right now, and we're not sure of the condition of the pitch there. We will need to adapt to those circumstances.”
