Vienna Amateure Secure Last-Minute Win Over Hellas Kagran
In the final match of the 21st round of the Vienna City League, Vienna Amateure faced Hellas Kagran away from home. Thanks to a last-second goal, the Amateure secured all three points and remain at the top of the table.
Shock from Early Conceded Goal
Vienna started the match with intent, pushing forward, but were caught cold after just six minutes. Following a corner kick, Simon Löhlein headed Hellas Kagran into a 1-0 lead. This early goal gave the Döbling side a slight shock, and Hellas Kagran took control of the game in the following minutes. Particularly from set pieces, the Green-Blacks looked dangerous, but Vienna goalkeeper Moritz Troindl was always in the right place. Thus, it was 0-1 at halftime from the perspective of coach Tuna's team.
Back and Forth in the Second Half
The second half started similarly, with Kagran continuing to create serious opportunities through set pieces, while Vienna fought hard to stay in the game. In the 52nd minute, however, Vienna found the equalizer. Following a quick counter-attack, Luka Babic fired a powerful left-footed shot into the far corner, bringing the score to 1-1. The young team pushed forward more, but lacked the consistency to take control.
Twenty minutes after the equalizer, Hellas Kagran regained the lead. Taner Sen converted a high ball into the box in the 78th minute to make it 2-1. But less than two minutes later, Vienna responded when Louis Birkhahn scored the equalizer with a brilliant solo effort, making it 2-2.
Lucky Punch in Injury Time
The game turned into an open, end-to-end affair. The match ended with three yellow cards in a physical encounter. Just when it seemed that the game was heading for a draw, Vienna Amateure struck once more. After a scramble in the Kagran penalty area, substitute Karl Höflich scored the much-celebrated winner in the 93rd minute to make it 3-2. Seconds later, referee Herbert Mimra blew the final whistle.
After the match, coach Gökce Tuna reflected on the performance: "It was our worst game in terms of play, but in terms of fighting spirit, it was a good performance. It was of course important for us to be rewarded with the win for the table. But as we discussed last week, the pitch looked good, but it wasn't very playable, which drained a lot of our energy. In the end, we're happy to have won."
