Vienna on the Road to Face Sturm Graz II
In Round 24 of the ADMIRAL 2nd League, First Vienna FC 1894 will take on the second team of SK Sturm Graz this Friday. The match will be played at the Solarstadion in Gleisdorf, with kick-off set for 6:00 PM. The game will be broadcast live on Laola1, with ORF Sport+ showing it as part of their conference coverage.
Confidence Boost After Home Win Against Bregenz
Vienna head to Styria with fresh momentum following a well-earned 2–1 home win over SW Bregenz in the last round. The Döbling side dominated the first half, barely allowing the visitors any chances. Although Bregenz improved after the break and pulled one back, the victory was never truly in doubt.
“The first half was very good. Even after halftime we were in control for large parts of the game, but we should’ve put it to bed earlier,” said head coach Mehmet Sütcü. “Still, a deserved win in the end.”
With the three points, Vienna not only pulled ahead of Bregenz in the table, but also temporarily moved into third place, sitting on 41 points.
Key Contract Extensions Securing the Future
Off the pitch, there was positive news for Vienna fans as well. Two key players committed their future to the club: team captain Bernhard Luxbacher has extended his contract until 2028, while defender Jürgen Bauer signed on until 2027.
These long-term extensions are a strong signal of continuity at Austria’s oldest football club. Both players are leaders on and off the pitch and have played a major role in the team’s strong and stable season.
Even Record Against Sturm II
Since Vienna’s return to the 2nd division, meetings with Sturm Graz II have been closely contested: out of five matches, Vienna has won two, drawn two, and lost one. That one defeat came in the reverse fixture back in October at the Hohe Warte, where Vienna fell 2–4 despite a spirited fightback and being down to ten men after a red card for Steiner.
“Games against reserve teams are always tricky to judge,” warned Sütcü. “You never quite know who’s coming down from the first team. For us, the key is to stay focused, stick to our game plan – and we’ll come away with something.”
Sturm II Solid in Mid-Table
Sturm Graz II have had a solid season so far. With 32 points, the young Blackies sit comfortably in mid-table and are far from the relegation battle. The gap to Vienna is only nine points – further proof of how competitive the league is this year.
In the spring, Christoph Wurm’s side has impressed with three wins and two draws. Their only losses came narrowly against Austria Lustenau and Stripfing.
