Vienna Amateurs bag next three points against Austria XIII
In Matchday 23 of the Wiener Stadtliga, the Vienna Amateurs aimed to continue their fantastic spring form against FV Austria XIII. Thanks to a confident 2–0 victory in perfect football weather, the young guns of 2025 now boast 7 wins from their last 8 matches and remain top of the table.
Tactical battle and hard-fought first half
The Vienna Amateurs started with attacking intent and created their first real chances around the 10-minute mark. However, the visitors from Penzing offered stiff resistance, with plenty of intense duels all over the pitch. Vienna dealt maturely with the few attacking attempts by Austria XIII, leaving chances scarce for much of the first half. In the 29th minute, the breakthrough came: after a corner, Santino Pistrol was in the right place at the right time to score his first goal of the season and make it 1–0. The rest of the half remained relatively quiet, and the Blue and Yellows went into the break with a deserved lead.
Vienna see it through
After the break, the Döbling side showed more creativity and bite going forward. The physical battles remained, but the home side's attacking efforts continued largely undisturbed. A moment of concern came in the 70th minute: after a heavy challenge, top scorer Louis Birkhahn went down in visible pain and had to be substituted for Simon Ellen following a lengthy treatment. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the pitch soon.
Just 15 minutes later, the Vienna supporters had something to cheer about again: in the 85th minute, Felix Nagele sealed the deal with a low shot into the bottom left corner. Austria XIII offered virtually nothing in attack during the second half, and Vienna ran out deserved 2–0 winners, immediately reclaiming their briefly lost spot at the top of the table.
Head coach Gökce Tuna was highly satisfied with his team’s performance: "The boys executed exactly what we wanted, against a side that defended very well. What impressed me most is that in the second half, they figured out on their own how to break them down — without me needing to tell them. I just gave them the final adjustments, and that shows we’re on a very good path."
