Bundesliga License Granted on Appeal: Vienna Reaches Historic Milestone
First Vienna FC 1894 has, for the first time in the club’s history, been granted a license for the ADMIRAL Bundesliga in the second instance. After submitting a protest within the set deadline and officially registering head coach Stefan Manzana Marin, who holds the required UEFA Pro License, the protest committee of the Austrian Football Bundesliga approved the application.
The successful granting of the license marks a significant milestone in the club’s history and is also seen as a clear quality indicator of the continuous, professional work being carried out within the club. It confirms the positive development of recent years and serves as a strong signal for the future.
At the same time, the team suffered a clear defeat in yesterday’s match, leaving their chances of promotion to the Bundesliga this season as only a theoretical possibility. Despite this setback, the interim sporting record remains positive: the team is expected to improve its points-per-game average compared to last season. Against this backdrop, the club will carefully analyze the current situation and set the course for the new season in the coming weeks.
“The granting of the Bundesliga license for the first time is a historic moment for First Vienna FC 1894 and an important validation of our work. The decision highlights that we are organizationally ready to take the next step. My special thanks go to all our staff, our partners, sponsors, and above all to our fans, who continue to support us with great loyalty. In the coming weeks, we will work together to take the next steps, continue our positive development, and get back on track on the sporting front,” said Vienna managing director Thomas Loy.
With the Bundesliga license, the club now meets the formal requirements for both of Austria’s top two divisions and looks to the future with clarity and ambition.
