Vienna Amateurs Face Top Clash in Stadlau
The 24th round of the Vienna City League takes the Vienna Amateurs to the Donaustadt to face FC Stadlau. Against the current third-place team, coach Gökce Tuna’s boys aim to take another big step toward the championship.
The season is drawing to a close for the Vienna Amateurs. Only seven matches remain, and the young players are still at the top of the league. However, their closest rivals, **SV Donau**, have been consistently winning, keeping Vienna’s lead to just two points. This makes the upcoming match against the third-best team in the league all the more crucial.
Stadlau Unbeaten in the Spring
FC Stadlau presents a tough challenge for the Döbling side. Managed by Senad Mujakic, the team has yet to lose a match this year, with their only dropped points coming from a 1–1 draw against Slovan HAC. Despite a somewhat inconsistent first half of the season, Stadlau's eight-point gap from the top makes the championship title still seem far off. However, the coaching change from Moemen Oraby to Mujakic has been a success, as the four-time Vienna City League champions have risen from 10th place to the top three under his guidance.
Vienna’s coach Gökce Tuna pays his opponents the utmost respect ahead of the match: “Stadlau has an experienced City League coach and solid central defenders who rarely make mistakes. They often play long balls, which we’ll need to defend against. We’re going there to win, we’re not aiming for a draw. Both teams have been winning a lot recently, so a loss could really hurt us.”
Birkhahn Injury Overshadows Last Win
The last victory over Austria XIII came at a high price for the Amateurs, as Louis Birkhahn had to be substituted due to injury. Birkhahn will be out for the rest of the season due to multiple ligament tears. The entire Vienna family wishes him a speedy recovery.
When asked if the team had already started discussing the potential for winning the championship, Tuna replied: “The word ‘championship’ has been a topic since the start of the season. What matters more is how it affects you. Does it motivate you, stress you out, or create pressure? Personally, I try to avoid it, and if I do use it, I try to keep it neutral without adding pressure.”
