Mehmet Sütcü Returns as Head Coach – Stefan Manzana Marin Stays Chief Scout and Takes on New Role in Match Analysis
Following Vienna’s official exit from the Bundesliga promotion race, the club is now shifting its focus toward continuity, development, and structural reinforcement. Mehmet Sütcü will return to his role as head coach of the Blau-Gelben. He will continue to be supported by assistant coach Roman Kienast and, going forward, also by Stefan Manzana Marin, who is joining the coaching staff in a newly defined role as match analyst.
With promotion no longer mathematically possible this season, Vienna’s transitional phase has officially come to an end. Over the past few weeks, Stefan Manzana Marin had stepped in as interim head coach to ensure all sporting and administrative options remained open during this crucial period. As part of the current strategic shift, the club has also formally withdrawn its application for a Bundesliga license. Manzana Marin now returns to his original position as chief scout while also taking on responsibilities in match analysis.
As a match analyst, he will contribute his extensive experience to pre-match preparation and opponent scouting – an area in which his skill set is a perfect fit. At the same time, he will remain involved in squad planning, continuing the duties he previously held as chief scout.
For Mehmet Sütcü, resuming the head coach position is the next logical step in his journey toward the UEFA Pro License. Alongside Roman Kienast and Stefan Manzana Marin, he forms a well-established coaching team that works closely and harmoniously on both a professional and personal level. Responsibilities are clearly defined, with the joint focus firmly set on progress and preparations for the upcoming season.
Sporting Director Andreas Ivanschitz commented:
“We were fully aware that our chances of promotion were only theoretical. Still, we made a clear internal decision to keep all options professionally safeguarded, and we followed that path together. Now is the right time to realign our setup: Stefan will be a significant asset to the coaching staff in his new role, and for Memo, it’s the perfect moment to retake the reins as head coach and continue his development toward the UEFA Pro License—backed by a strong, cohesive team.”
