Vienna Earns a Point Against Austria Lustenau
On Matchday 28 of the ADMIRAL 2. Liga, First Vienna FC 1894 traveled to face SC Austria Lustenau. In a tightly contested and evenly balanced match, neither side was able to find a breakthrough, resulting in a 0-0 draw.
Cagey Opening Phase
The match began cautiously, with both teams feeling each other out in the early stages. Vienna looked to take control through extended spells of possession. The first notable chance fell to the visitors: Bumbic won the ball on the right flank, drove forward, and squared it to Dilek, who laid it off for Diamonde at the edge of the box—his shot, however, missed the target.
Vienna Grows Into the Game
As the match progressed, Vienna began to assert themselves more and pushed the action increasingly into the hosts’ half. Lustenau’s compact backline made it difficult for the visitors to create clear-cut opportunities. In the 13th minute, Zimmermann got on the end of a cross with a header, but it posed no real danger.
Big Chance for Grabher
Despite Vienna’s growing dominance, it was Lustenau who carved out the best chance of the first half. Following a deep corner, the ball fell to Pius Grabher, who struck a well-placed shot on goal. Omerovic reacted sharply and managed to block the effort at the last moment. Lustenau successfully withstood Vienna’s pressure, and the first half ended with a fair 0-0 scoreline.
Fresh Legs for Lustenau
Vienna coach Mehmet Sütcü made no changes at halftime. On the other side, Austria Lustenau brought on Cissé for Delaye. The game resumed much like the first half, with both teams operating at eye level and neither managing to gain a real upper hand. The score remained goalless.
New Impulse from Vienna
In the 60th minute, Sütcü made his first substitution, bringing on Luca Edelhofer for the struggling Diamonde. Soon after, Vienna found a rare chance to counter: Edelhofer threaded a precise through ball to Dilek, who broke down the wing. His low cross into the box, however, was just too long, and Zimmermann narrowly missed connecting. At the other end, Lustenau responded quickly—Diarra fired a long-range shot, but Vienna goalkeeper Unger saved comfortably. Minutes later, another substitution for the visitors saw Peham come on for Dilek.
Goalless Finish in the Closing Stages
In the final minutes, Vienna pushed for a late winner. Luxbacher picked out Peham, who cut inside with a clever move and found space for a shot—but his effort failed to hit the back of the net. Lustenau also threatened in the dying moments: Cissé’s long-range effort went just wide, and Ouattara’s low strike from close range missed narrowly as well.
Neither side was able to break the deadlock. After four minutes of added time, referee Bosnjak blew the final whistle to end the match at 0-0.
