Draw in the Vienna Women’s Derby
In the penultimate round of the ADMIRAL Women’s Bundesliga, another top clash was on the agenda. The Vienna Women’s Derby between First Vienna FC 1894 and FK Austria Wien ended in a 1–1 draw. Vienna showed strong character, coming from behind to earn a well-deserved point.
Balanced First Half in the Derby
Austria had the brighter start and created the first real chance in the 3rd minute. After a set piece, the ball fell to Schiechtl, whose shot to the near post was brilliantly parried by Vienna goalkeeper Schlimé.
Following this early opportunity, the tempo of the match dropped slightly. Both teams played with focus and caution, determined not to make mistakes. The derby evolved into a tactical affair, with few highlights in this phase.
Early Substitutions on Both Sides
Vienna head coach Mark Dobrounig was forced to make an early change in the 27th minute. Sarah Gutmann had to come off after a knock, and Julia Kappenberger was brought on in her place. Austria also had to deal with an injury shortly after: Verena Volkmer was replaced by Satra.
Big Chance Just Before the Break
The two sides continued to cancel each other out, and neither managed to carve out clear scoring opportunities. Just before halftime, Vienna came close: after a low cross from Wucher, Hannah Fankhauser found space in front of goal, but her shot was too central and comfortably saved by Austria’s keeper Haidner.
After a cautious and chance-scarce first half, the teams went into the break level at 0–0.
Austria Strike Early in the Second Half
Both coaches stuck with their line-ups after the break. But just three minutes into the second half, Austria made their first attack count. A pinpoint cross from the right was met by Anna Schorn, who headed home to give the hosts a 1–0 lead.
Kappenberger Nets the Equalizer
Vienna responded well to going behind and began to apply more pressure. In the 60th minute, Aldiana Amuchie came on for Fankhauser—a change that paid off almost immediately. Five minutes later, Amuchie let fly from distance and rattled the crossbar. The rebound fell kindly to Kappenberger, who slotted in from close range to make it 1–1.
Strong Finish from Vienna Goes Unrewarded
After the equalizer, Vienna took control of the match and created several promising chances. However, they were unable to find a winner. The match ended in a 1–1 draw—a result that Austria, in particular, will be satisfied with.
