Vienna Amateurs aiming to take the next step in Simmering
The season in the Wiener Stadtliga is slowly approaching its conclusion. In round 26, the Vienna Amateurs will play away at 1. Simmeringer SC. Coach Gökce Tuna’s team is aiming to take another step toward the league title against the side currently in 14th place.
Last weekend, the young squad celebrated an impressive and convincing 4–1 win over SV Schwechat, underlining their ambition to finish the season at the top of the table. Against Simmering, who they beat 4–2 in the reverse fixture, coach Gökce Tuna wants to keep the team’s intensity high: “We just want to stay sharp and focused so we can reward ourselves at the end of the season. So far, it’s worked well, and the boys are in good form.”
Simmering not safe yet
Rene Hieblinger’s team has only managed two wins in the second half of the season and remains stuck in the relegation battle. Even though they currently hold a five-point cushion over second-to-last Mannswörth, they are not out of danger yet. After the match against Vienna, they still have to face top teams like Stadlau and Austria XIII.
Vienna coach Gökce Tuna gave this assessment of the upcoming opponent: “They will definitely give everything to try and take points from us. Playing away against a battling side is never easy, but our boys will bring a lot of dominance and high intensity to the pitch and defend the top spot. I don’t think Simmering will create many chances against us in open play, so I expect them to stay compact and look for counterattacks.”
