Vienna lose final home match of the season
In their final home game of the 2024/25 season, First Vienna FC faced SKU Amstetten on Matchday 29 of the ADMIRAL 2. Liga. After conceding a goal just 20 seconds in, the team from Döbling never really got into the game and ultimately suffered a 1–3 defeat.
Lightning start for the visitors
Referee Gabriel Gmeiner had barely blown the starting whistle when the ball was already in Vienna’s net: right from kick-off, Amstetten played their way into the box, and Thomas Mayer finished off the move with a low shot after just 20 seconds. Christopher Giuliani, who started in goal in place of regular keeper Bernhard Unger, stood no chance. Vienna tried not to let the early setback shake them, but struggled to find answers against a confident Lower Austrian side.
Chances few and far between
The hosts attempted to break through with individual dribbling runs, but most of them led nowhere. As a result, Vienna failed to create any real chances in the first half. The brightest moments came through Kelechi Nnamdi, who tried his luck from distance on a few occasions. However, the more dangerous opportunities came from Amstetten, who continued to pose a threat — especially from set-pieces. Vienna’s defense had their hands full.
Second goal right before halftime
Just moments before the halftime whistle, the visitors doubled their lead. After a quick attack down the wing by Sebastian Wimmer — who had already assisted the opening goal — Dominik Weixelbraun was left completely unmarked by Vienna’s backline and beat Giuliani with ease in the 45th minute. The teams went into the break with Amstetten leading 2–0.
Triple substitution for Vienna
Coach Mehmet Sütcü reacted at halftime, making three changes to inject fresh energy into the attack. David Peham, Luca Edelhofer, and David Ungar came on for Bernhard Zimmermann, Niklas Alozie, and Yalin Dilek. However, Amstetten continued to have the upper hand in terms of chances and remained a threat from dead balls. Midway through the second half, Vienna finally had a chance from a set-piece of their own, but Noah Steiner’s shot lacked power and was comfortably saved by SKU keeper Armin Gremsl.
3–0! Amstetten in top form
In the 68th minute, things got worse for Vienna. Following a corner, chaos broke out in the box and Yannick Oberleitner was able to poke the ball over the line to make it 3–0. Sütcü brought on Philipp Ochs for Diomandé in an attempt to salvage a more respectable result. Ochs had a decent effort in the 82nd minute, but his low shot was stopped by Gremsl.
Late consolation goal
As the match drew to a close, the hosts pushed for a goal to avoid a heavy defeat — and succeeded. In stoppage time, David Peham scored against his former club with a precise finish after a well-timed through ball from Bumbic, making it 1–3. Minutes later, the final whistle blew, confirming Vienna’s first-ever defeat to SKU Amstetten in 15 encounters.
Before the match, Kelvin Boateng, David Peham, Daniel Luxbacher, and Philipp Ochs were officially bid farewell. All four players will leave Vienna at the end of the season.
Vienna’s final match of the season will take place next week away at SV Ried, who could secure promotion to the Bundesliga with a win.
