Draw against LAC-Inter – Vienna Amateurs remain joint leaders
In the 27th round of the Vienna City League, the Vienna Amateurs had the chance to become sole leaders again. However, after a 2-2 draw against Landstraßer AC, the table situation three rounds before the end remains unchanged, as SV Donau also drew.
First half lacking highlights
Both teams initially felt each other out in the opening ten minutes, with no real goal attempts. The game was mostly played in midfield, with both the hosts and the visitors from the 3rd district showing great concentration. In the 13th minute, the youngsters broke the deadlock: following a lovely lobbed pass, Simon Ellen scored to make it 1-0. After that, LAC intensified their attacking efforts and created a few chances. Vienna Amateurs, too, had opportunities, including from Alexander Krammer. However, neither side posed a clear threat before halftime, which ended 1-0.
Back-and-forth in the second half
Right after the restart, Landstraße won two dangerous chances, and Vienna struggled to settle. Although Alexander Krammer got two more attempts, it was the visitors who scored: in the 60th minute, goalkeeper Maximilian Zeidler saved an initial header but was powerless to stop Gökhan Ünver’s follow-up header. Vienna coach Gökce Tuna reacted by bringing on Nösslinger and the recovered Louis Birkhahn in the 65th minute for Weitmayr and Dziurdzik.
In the 70th minute, the Döbling side found themselves behind again: after a long ball, Gökhan Ünver controlled beautifully and finished with his second goal, putting LAC 2-1 up. Vienna then tried to rally to keep the championship race in their hands. Their efforts paid off in the 81st minute when Louis Birkhahn volleyed home the equalizer to make it 2-2. Both teams pushed forward in the final stages seeking all three points, but no decisive blow came. The draw leaves the top of the table unchanged.
Gökce Tuna was mostly satisfied with his team’s performance: “The boys put in a top performance. We should have sealed it in the second half but conceded the equalizer shortly after. That of course affects the players. Nevertheless, we fought back well and can be proud and content despite the final result.”
