Vienna Amateurs travel to WFV Cup winners Helfort
A true top clash awaits the Vienna Amateurs in Round 28 of the Wiener Stadtliga as they travel to face newly crowned Vienna Cup champions Dinamo Helfort. With only three matches remaining in the season, everything is still at stake — and mathematically, even Helfort can still push for promotion.
The last two rounds didn’t quite go according to plan for the young Blue and Yellows, who were held to back-to-back draws against Simmering and LAC-Inter. That makes a full three points against the Ottakring side all the more important. However, Helfort — Stadtliga champions back in 1965 — will be a serious test for the visitors.
Helfort flying high
Dinamo are riding a wave of momentum. Just last week, after two previous final defeats, they finally lifted the Vienna Football Cup for the first time in their history, earning a place in next season’s ÖFB Cup. They defeated Red Star Penzing 2–0 in the final. League form has also been excellent: unbeaten since mid-March and on a five-game winning streak, Stefan Coric’s side are one of the league’s form teams. It’s shaping up to be a massive challenge for Vienna to come away from Ottakring with all three points.
Vienna head coach Gökce Tuna shared his thoughts ahead of the game:
“Fact is, this match will be just as tough as the next one — even if we’re playing the bottom side (Mannswörth) next week. Playing on natural grass doesn’t necessarily suit our game, but we’ll give everything in these last three matches. The boys are motivated.”
Injury list easing
A positive note ahead of what could be the most crucial game of the season: Vienna’s injury list is finally easing. Except for Santino Pistrol, all players are expected to be fit and available for the match.
“In this stage of the season, every game is vital,” Tuna continued. “As always, we’ll try to play to our strengths and give our best on the pitch.”
