Vienna Amateurs Victorious in Mannswörth
In the early match of the 30th round of the Wiener Stadtliga, everything was on the line for the Vienna Amateurs. Facing bottom-placed SC Mannswörth, a win was absolutely vital to stay in the title race. Thanks to two late goals and a final 3–1 victory, the championship will now be decided on the very last matchday.
Little to Report in the First Half
The opening 45 minutes offered fans at Sportplatz Mannswörth few attacking highlights from either side. A Vienna free kick that hit the wall in the 11th minute was the most notable early moment. In the 20th minute, a strong save from Mannswörth goalkeeper Manuel Trnka denied Vienna, before the hosts fired a shot into the side netting five minutes later. A well-placed cross then forced a save from Vienna keeper Maximilian Zeidler in the 33rd minute, and Mannswörth even had a goal disallowed for offside shortly after.
Just when it looked like both teams would head into the break goalless, Vienna struck in stoppage time. A poor clearance by the hosts landed at the feet of Louis Birkhahn, who calmly flicked the ball in with the outside of his foot to give Vienna a 1–0 lead in the third minute of added time — just before the halftime whistle.
Late Goals Secure All Three Points for Vienna
The second half wasn’t much more fluid than the first. Mannswörth managed a half-chance in the 54th minute before the game settled back into a lull. Both coaches made several substitutions just after the hour mark. Gökce Tuna brought on Heller for Höflich, followed by Nösslinger and Dziurdzik for Babic and Roschütz.
In the 65th minute, Vienna missed a golden chance to double their lead — a moment they would soon regret. In the 84th minute, Mannswörth made the most of a rare opportunity. After a well-placed cross, Ugur Sezen rose highest and headed home to make it 1–1, capitalizing on a moment of indecision in Vienna’s defence.
It looked like Vienna was heading for a fourth straight draw, until Nicholas Nösslinger stepped up in the 87th minute with a moment of brilliance. From long range, he struck a powerful shot that dipped past Trnka into the net to make it 2–1. In stoppage time, Dziurdzik sealed the win with a composed finish from 16 metres to make it 3–1. Coach Gökce Tuna’s substitutions paid off handsomely, and the title dream remains alive.
After the match, Tuna summed things up: “Overall, it was a tough game to manage on this pitch. We’re very satisfied with the performance — the conditions didn’t really allow us to play our usual game. But an important win, and top job from the lads.”
