Katharina Lichtenberger joins Vienna
The Vienna women’s team is pleased to announce another new signing for the upcoming season: goalkeeper Katharina Lichtenberger transfers from second-division club SG FAC/USC Landhaus to Hohe Warte, completing the goalkeeper roster at Austria’s oldest football club.
The 28-year-old from Burgenland brings not only plenty of experience but also great determination. After recovering from an ACL injury, she is eager to make a strong comeback with Vienna. Previously, Lichtenberger was the first-choice keeper for the Floridsdorf-based side and contributed significantly to last season’s runner-up finish in the 2. Bundesliga before her injury.
Katharina Lichtenberger began her football career in the youth ranks of SC Breitenbrunn. Her journey took her through USC Landhaus, Neulengbach, Altenmarkt, and Wiener Sportclub before she joined SG FAC/USC Landhaus in 2023. She quickly established herself as a key player there until a knee injury last year temporarily halted her progress.
“The rehab period was tough, but I learned a lot about myself. Now I’m excited about the new challenge at Vienna. I’m ready to give my all again and contribute to the team’s success,” Lichtenberger said about her move.
Head coach Mark Dobrounig expressed great satisfaction with the signing: “With Katharina, we gain not only an experienced and reliable goalkeeper but also a true team player with a strong character. She’s coming off an injury but brings a wealth of experience and personality. She will play a crucial role in the development of our goalkeeping department. We’re very happy she chose Vienna.”
Following the departure of Christina Schönwetter to the German Bundesliga, a goalkeeper position in the squad was vacant. With Lichtenberger, Vienna succeeds in filling that role with quality and experience, while strategically strengthening the goalkeeper team.
