Final Matchday for Vienna Amateure Against Brigittenau
The Vienna Amateure face their final match of the 2024/25 Wiener Stadtliga season in the rescheduled 29th round, hosting WAF Brigittenau. It’s all on the line in this long-distance title showdown with SV Donau: only a win combined with a slip-up from Donau can propel the Amateure to the top of the table.
Throughout 29 rounds, Vienna Amateure and SV Donau have battled neck and neck for the league crown. Now, with one round to go, the championship remains undecided.
Crunch Time: The Scenarios
As is often the case in such a tight title race, the calculators come out in the final days. But this time, the situation is relatively straightforward: if Donau win their match against Red Star Penzing (played simultaneously with Vienna's), the Kaisermühlen side will seal the title—regardless of Vienna’s result at the Campus.
However, if the young Vienna side defeat fourth-placed Brigittenau, they will leapfrog into first place only if Donau draw or lose. Since the head-to-head between the two contenders ended in a draw, goal difference becomes the tiebreaker—where Vienna currently holds the slightest edge.
WAF – A Tough Nut to Crack
The task won’t be an easy one. WAF Brigittenau have had a strong season and are only out of the title picture due to a string of drawn matches. Fourth place is still an impressive finish, especially considering they ended last season in 14th. The first leg between these two sides ended in a 1–1 draw, and Brigittenau come into this match on a four-game winning streak. The club boasts a long and proud history, highlighted by an Austrian championship title back in 1914.
Vienna head coach Gökce Tuna commented ahead of the season finale: “We’ll focus on playing our game. A few players are missing, but that just means more opportunities for some of our younger guys. We’ll see what happens, but as always, we’ll stick to what we’ve been doing every week.”
