Niklas Szerencsi Strengthens Vienna’s Backline
First Vienna FC 1894 has secured the signing of Niklas Szerencsi. The 25-year-old central defender joins from Austrian Bundesliga side Austria Klagenfurt and has signed a contract running until the summer of 2027. The Vienna native becomes the club’s fourth new addition in the current transfer window, following Marco Djuricin, Osarenren Okungbowa, and Amir Abdijanovic.
Szerencsi gained valuable top-flight experience last season, making 19 appearances in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga for Klagenfurt. Prior to that, he impressed in the 2. Liga with Kapfenberger SV, where he notched up 7 goals in 51 matches – a remarkable return for a centre-back.
He also proved his consistency in the Regionalliga, featuring in 71 matches combined for Wiener Sport-Club and FCM Traiskirchen, contributing 2 goals and 4 assists.
Standing at 1.95 meters tall, Szerencsi developed through the youth academies of SK Rapid, Admira, and Wiener Sport-Club – the latter being the club where he made his senior breakthrough. His performances in Traiskirchen and Kapfenberg paved the way for a Bundesliga move to Klagenfurt in 2024.
Sporting director Andreas Ivanschitz expressed his confidence in the new addition: "Niklas brings physical presence, tactical intelligence, and goal-scoring ability – all qualities that will significantly strengthen our defense. He has shown steady development in recent years, and we’re convinced he will take the next step with us."
Niklas Szerencsi is excited about his return home: "I’m really happy to be back in Vienna and to wear the Vienna shirt going forward. The talks with the club were very positive and ambitious. I want to take on responsibility here, play successful football, and grow both as a player and a person."
