Aleksandar Gitsov Joins Mehmet Sütcü as Vienna’s New Co-Head Coach
Vienna is setting the course for the upcoming season by strengthening its coaching staff with the addition of Aleksandar Gitsov. The 37-year-old Viennese native will form a co-head coaching duo alongside Mehmet Sütcü. They will continue to be supported by assistant coach Roman Kienast.
Gitsov, currently completing the UEFA Pro License course (set to finish by the end of this year), brings valuable experience from Austria’s ADMIRAL 2nd Division. Previous roles with SV Horn, FAC, and most recently as head coach of SKN St. Pölten highlight his tactical expertise. He has also gained international insights, including a spell as assistant coach at CSKA Sofia.
Gitsov will begin his work with the team at the start of pre-season training this coming Monday. His tactical acumen and understanding of the game are expected to bring fresh momentum and complement the existing coaching team. This appointment reflects Vienna’s ambitious goals in the pursuit of promotion.
As part of the structural changes ahead of the new season, Stefan Manzana Marin will now fully focus on his role as Head Scout. He will work closely with Sporting Director Andreas Ivanschitz to support the club’s strategic squad planning.
Sporting Director Andreas Ivanschitz commented: "I’m very pleased that we were able to bring Aleksandar Gitsov on board. Our discussions were very positive from the start. His approach and footballing knowledge will be a great asset to our coaching team. He’s a team player, knows Austrian football inside out, and despite his young age, already brings a wealth of experience. Alongside Mehmet Sütcü and assistant coach Roman Kienast, Aleksandar will be part of a strong and well-rounded coaching staff."
Aleksandar Gitsov also shared his excitement about the new role: "I’m really looking forward to this new challenge at Vienna. It’s a club with a rich tradition and incredible fans. The club has a clear vision and ambitious goals. I will give everything I have to contribute to our success as a team and help us achieve those shared objectives."
