Vienna Amateurs after Season’s End: Pride Takes Over

The First Vienna FC Amateurs wrapped up their campaign in the Wiener Stadtliga as runners-up. While the narrow miss of the league title left some heads hanging after the final whistle, pride clearly outweighs disappointment when looking at the development of the team throughout the season.

 A Summer of New Faces

Head coach Gökce Tuna began the season with several changes compared to last year's squad in the 2. Wiener Landesliga. Prior to the campaign, Kelechi Nnamdi, Haris Zahirovic, and Dean Titkov were promoted to the first-team squad, though they continued to feature occasionally for the Amateurs. In the winter, Felix Nagele joined that list—although he didn’t make a first-team appearance, he was named in the matchday squad multiple times. This progression highlights the excellent work being done in youth development at Vienna.

Looking ahead, five more Amateur players – Louis Birkhahn, Santino Pistrol, Moritz Troindl, Aris Stogiannidis, and Vincent Zeidler – will join the senior squad in the ADMIRAL 2. Liga.

But it wasn't just the U23 team impressing: eight players from the U16 and U18 squads were called up to the Stadtliga side this season – including Maximilian Zeidler, Razvan Boca, Simon Ellen, Amar Dzibric, Vincent Zeidler, Aelaf Ayalew, and Felix Nagele, who made a rapid rise through the ranks to reach the first team. In addition, Alexander Krammer, signed from TWL Elektra, made a key contribution with 10 goals. Other names to watch for next season include Oskar Weitmayr and the sibling duos Nösslinger and Roschütz.

A Strong First Half to the Season

The team had a blistering start, winning their first six matches with an aggregate score of 20:5. A winless streak in the following four games tempered the early excitement, but by the winter break, the team still sat second in the table – a strong position for a newly promoted side.

The spring campaign began superbly (aside from a 0–3 loss to SV Donau) with seven wins in the first eight matches, propelling the team to first place. In early May, the title was not just a dream—it was within reach. The Amateurs remained top until matchday 27, but key results slipped away in the run-in. A 2–4 defeat to Stadlau triggered a dip in form, with four of the last six matches ending in draws. Meanwhile, Donau kept winning and leapfrogged into first place. On the final matchday, it looked like Vienna might still snatch the title – until Donau took the lead late in their match and the Döbling side surrendered a lead against Brigittenau, ending their title hopes.

A Proud Debut Season for Gökce Tuna

Gökce Tuna took on the challenging task of leading a very young squad and guiding their development. He did so impressively, finishing second in his first full season as head coach of the Amateurs in Austria’s fourth tier.

“We started with a very young team – many players had no previous experience in senior football. The fact that we were in the title race until the very end with 14 U18 players shows just how hard this group worked. This is exactly the pathway Vienna stands for – and one we will continue to follow with full conviction.”

Looking Ahead to the New Season

The coach is already focused on what’s next: “We can be proud of adding another five or six players to the first-team squad. And we’ve already got promising new talents who earned their first minutes at the end of the season. We’re confident we’ll be competitive again next year. We put in the hard work every day to help our players grow – and when that effort pays off in results, it’s just fantastic. It’s proof of the outstanding work being done at First Vienna, and something the whole club can be proud of.”
