Vienna Win Pre-Season Friendly Against Donaufeld
In their third pre-season fixture of the summer, First Vienna FC 1894 faced off against the reigning Regionalliga Ost champions, SR Donaufeld. In a hard-fought encounter, Vienna ultimately emerged victorious with a 3–1 win.
The match got off to a flying start, with the visitors taking the lead in the 4th minute. Zimmermann played a perfectly weighted through ball to Luxbacher, and the captain calmly slotted it past the goalkeeper to make it 1–0. Despite conceding early, the hosts didn’t sit back and put Vienna under constant pressure with their aggressive style of play, making for an exciting contest. In the 19th minute, David Ungar doubled Vienna’s lead with a stunning chip from long range.
Shortly before the break, Marco Djuricin produced a moment of brilliance that drew applause from the crowd. Spotting the Donaufeld keeper off his line, the striker attempted a long-range effort from around the halfway line, narrowly missing the target. No further goals were scored before half-time, and Vienna went into the break with a solid 2–0 lead.
Donaufeld Pull One Back
Vienna made three changes during the interval, but it was Donaufeld who started the second half on the front foot. In the 52nd minute, Van Zaanen delivered a cross from the left wing, which Lux converted to reduce the deficit to 2–1.
As the half progressed, Vienna brought on three young talents – Stogiannidis, Titkov, and Nagele – who injected fresh energy into the side. Shortly after the triple substitution, Edelhofer came close to scoring with a powerful header from close range, but the Donaufeld keeper made a fine save. In the 70th minute, Zeidler replaced the impressive Luxbacher.
In the 85th minute, Vienna restored their two-goal cushion. Luca Edelhofer capped off a brilliant solo run with a thunderous strike from distance to make it 3–1 – a goal that sealed the win.
