Goalkeeper Johanna Wende joins Vienna
Vienna has made another move in the goalkeeper position. Johanna Wende, a young keeper who has already gained valuable experience in Germany, is strengthening the team. Wende joins Vienna from Werder Bremen.
Alongside Katharina Lichtenberger, Johanna Wende becomes the second goalkeeper to reinforce Vienna. The 22-year-old began her football journey in the youth teams of VfL Westercelle and SV Emmendorf. In 2017, Wende moved to VfL Wolfsburg, where she gained valuable experience in the youth ranks of the European top club. After four years, she left Wolfsburg and continued her career at Carl Zeiss Jena. Following one season there, she transferred to 1. FC Saarbrücken. Last summer, Werder Bremen announced her signing. In the past season, Wende played for the Bundesliga club’s second team, making 13 appearances in Germany’s third-highest league.
Despite her young age, Wende has already had several exciting stops in her career. This move abroad marks another important milestone for her. At Vienna, Wende will be able to contribute her experience and strengthen the team in many ways.
Head coach Mark Dobrounig is pleased with the new addition:
“We’re excited to have Johanna join our team. We were looking for a goalkeeper with her skill set and are confident she will strengthen our goalkeeping unit. We’re happy she is now part of our team, and we look forward to working together towards our goals – both hers and ours.”
