Vienna faces SV Tillmitsch in the UNIQA ÖFB Cup
The pre-season friendlies are over, and anticipation for the new season is building. This coming Friday, July 25, 2025, Vienna will face SV Tillmitsch away in the Nunner Arena in the first round of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup. The match against the Styrian Landesliga side kicks off at 7:30 PM.
Promising Pre-Season
The Blue and Yellows’ preparations have been promising: three wins, two draws, and only one defeat provide a solid foundation for the competitive season opener. The 2–2 draw against Bundesliga side TSV Hartberg in the final test match was especially encouraging.
Coach Memo Sütcü offered a positive summary:
“We were able to work intensely and with great focus, and in recent weeks we’ve made good progress both physically and tactically. The results of the friendlies give us confidence.”
Against Hartberg, Vienna took the lead twice – first through Marco Djuricin in the 2nd minute, and later through Bamba Susso, who scored his debut goal for Döbling with his very first touch. Hartberg equalized in stoppage time through Havel.
“To control the game in phases against a Bundesliga team was a strong signal. Our cohesion has improved with every match. We’re on the right track,” said Sütcü.
New Faces in the Blue-and-Yellow Jersey
This summer brought a number of changes to the Vienna squad. Amir Abdijanovic (SV Horn), Osarenren Okungbowa (WSG Tirol), Marco Djuricin (SV Stripfing), Niklas Szerencsi (Austria Klagenfurt), Benjamin Rosenberger (GAK), and Bamba Susso (Pisa SC) all joined Vienna. In contrast, twelve players departed during the summer. (TRANSFER OVERVIEW)
Fresh energy is also coming from the club’s youth academy: Moritz Troindl, Santino Pistrol, Felix Nagele, Louis Birkhahn, Aris Stogiannidis, and Vincent Zeidler have been promoted to the senior squad.
Off the pitch, Vienna has also strengthened: Aleksandar Gitsov now forms a new head coaching duo with Mehmet Sütcü. They are supported by assistant coach Roman Kienast, goalkeeper coach Patrick Kostner, and athletic coach Nikola Zivotic.
Styrian Cup Winner Welcomes Vienna
SV Tillmitsch qualified for the UNIQA ÖFB Cup by winning the Styrian State Cup. In the final, the "Panthers" beat Deutschlandsberger SC convincingly 3–0, marking their first-ever victory in the competition. They finished last season in fourth place in the Styrian Landesliga.
Coach Sütcü warns against underestimating the supposed underdog:
“Matches like these always require caution. Clubs from lower leagues have nothing to lose and bring a lot of passion. We need to stay focused and bring our quality onto the pitch.”
Squad News Ahead of the Cup Match
Vienna will have most of the squad available for the first round of the Cup. Christoph Monschein and Markus Rusek remain out with long-term injuries. Bamba Susso is not eligible to play yet due to a pending work permit. The availability of Dilek and Diomandé is still uncertain and will be decided shortly before the match.
