Confident Opening Victory Away at Stripfing
Vienna kicked off the new season with an impressive 2–0 away win against Stripfing, taking the lead in the first half thanks to goals from Djuricin and Zimmermann. The team then managed the match confidently to secure all three points. Next up is the highly anticipated home opener at Hohe Warte on August 8th, featuring a traditional showdown against Austria Salzburg. Tickets available at www.1894.at/tickets.
Season Opener away at SV Stripfing
Vienna started the new season on the road at SV Stripfing. The coaching staff largely relied on the starting eleven from the recent Cup match against Tillmitsch. Only two changes were made: Djuricin replaced Edelhofer in the starting lineup, and Nnamdi came in for the injured Okungbowa.
Cautious Start, Vienna takes control
The match began cautiously. Stripfing showed effort but posed no real threat in front of goal—Vienna defended compactly and didn’t allow any chances.
After around eight minutes, the team from Döbling increased the tempo and looked more and more to push forward. The first big chance came in the 10th minute: Abdijanovic narrowly missed the target after a cross from Djuricin. Shortly after, Vienna camped out in the opposing penalty area, but two successive corners brought no reward.
Djuricin puts Vienna ahead
Vienna kept the pressure on. In the 15th minute, Abdijanovic’s long-range shot missed the target, but just five minutes later, the breakthrough came: A pinpoint cross from Rosenberger found Djuricin, who headed the ball into the net – unstoppable – 1–0 for Vienna in the 20th minute.
First chance for Stripfing
Stripfing’s first real chance came in the 27th minute. After a foul by Szerencsi, Poldrugac stepped up for a free kick, but Vienna goalkeeper Unger held on at the second attempt.
Zimmermann Doubles the Lead
Vienna continued to dominate and took full advantage of their superiority. In the 37th minute, they made it 2–0—again following a textbook cross from Rosenberger. This time it was Zimmermann who met the delivery with a header to score. An almost identical copy of the first goal.
Abdijanovic had another opportunity just before halftime, but Stripfing managed to clear. Vienna went into the break with a well-deserved 2–0 lead.
No Changes for Vienna, Stripfing ring the changes
Vienna came out for the second half unchanged, while Stripfing made four substitutions at once, bringing on Steiner, Beaka, Furtlehner, and Knasmüllner to inject fresh energy.
The first chance after the restart belonged to the hosts: a dangerous cross flew past everyone. The game then went quiet for a while. A brief scare followed when Stripfing's goalkeeper accidentally kicked the ball against Zimmermann while trying to clear, but the danger was averted. Shortly after, substitute Beaka created a chance, but his shot went wide.
Vienna in control
From the 69th minute, Vienna also started making changes: Edelhofer came on for Djuricin. Stripfing made their final change in the 73rd minute (Spasic for Kreiker).
Vienna gradually regained control. In the 74th minute, Abdijanovic took a long-range shot, but it went over the bar. Two minutes later, Schmidt came on for Zimmermann.
The guests managed the game well, while Stripfing continued their attempts to get a goal back. In the 89th minute, Titkov came on for Abdijanovic to provide fresh legs.
Unger Keeps a clean sheet – Deserved Vienna Victory
In the closing stages, goalkeeper Unger preserved his clean sheet with two strong saves. Shortly after, Schmidt had a chance to make it 3–0, but his lob went just wide.
In the end, it was a deserved 2–0 away win for Vienna – a successful start to the new season.
