Birthday Match against FC Liefering
For the 131st birthday of First Vienna FC 1894, the Döbling side will face FC Liefering in the fourth round of the ADMIRAL 2. Liga. After the traditional clash against Austria Salzburg in front of a sold-out crowd, Vienna now aims to pick up points again in their next home fixture. Kick-off for the birthday match is on Friday at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are available in advance as usual at www.1894.at/tickets.
August 22 is a special day in the history of Austria’s oldest football club: On this date in 1894, the founding meeting of First Vienna FC was held at today’s Pfarrwirt. Exactly 131 years later, the blue and yellows will play their league match against Liefering on this anniversary.
Be there, support the team in the stadium, and celebrate this special birthday with us! Tickets are already available at www.1894.at/tickets.
IMPORTANT: Starting this season, tickets purchased at the matchday box office or at the club office will cost €1 more than in the online ticket shop (children’s tickets excluded).
Vienna Fighting for the Top Spots
Vienna has started the new season strongly with three victories. After progressing in the cup, the Döblingers celebrated an away win against SV Stripfing in their league opener. However, the standout memory so far remains the first home match against Austria Salzburg in front of a sold-out Hohe Warte: With a clear 3–0 win, Vienna delivered one of those magical evenings that make Hohe Warte so unique.
In the last round came the first small setback. Away at SKN St. Pölten, Marco Hausjell scored the 2–1 winner for the hosts in the 96th minute. That meant Vienna had to accept their first dropped points of the season. Nevertheless, sitting in third place, the team remains within striking distance of the top spots.
Head coach Mehmet Sütcü gives his first assessment:
“The start to the season was okay, even if the defeat in St. Pölten was of course a blow. But moments like that are part of football. What matters is that we learn from it and continue on our path consistently. The season is long, we still have every opportunity, and in the next two home games we want to take the chance to get back to winning ways.”
12th-Placed Liefering Visiting Hohe Warte
Our opponent, FC Liefering, picked up two points in their first three matches. After a heavy 0–4 defeat in their season opener against Austria Lustenau, they followed up with two draws against the reserve sides of Sturm Graz and Rapid Wien. With two points on the board, Daniel Beichler’s team currently sits in 12th place.
Coach Sütcü knows the qualities of the opponent:
“Liefering is a young, talented team that always has players with enormous potential. We must not be fooled by their position in the table. For us, it will be crucial to impose our game and use the support of our fans to keep the three points at Hohe Warte.”
Cult Shirt for our Cult Coach
This time, too, there’s a special treat for all Vienna fans in our fan shop. To mark the 131st birthday, Vienna is presenting a T-shirt in honor of our former coach Alfred Tatar.
Already this Thursday at 6:00 p.m., you’ll have the chance to secure your “Fredl” Tatar shirt at the fan shop opening. In addition, our brand-new kit is now available in the shop as well. Come by – there’s something for everyone!
