Vienna triumphs with attacking spectacle against FC Südburgenland
The Vienna women celebrated a commanding 8–3 away victory in the 2nd round of the ADMIRAL Women’s Bundesliga in Südburgenland. The Döbling side laid the foundation for the clear win already in the first half. Next Friday, a special home doubleheader with the men awaits. Tickets are now available at www.1894.at/tickets.
In round 2 of the ADMIRAL Women’s Bundesliga, Vienna was once again on the road. Compared to the season opener, head coach Mark Dobrounig made two changes to the starting XI: Hahn returned to the lineup, and Pfanner celebrated her comeback start after an injury layoff.
Strong start from Vienna
The visitors flew out of the blocks. In the 3rd minute, Kerschbaumer had the first big chance after a pass from Fankhauser, but her effort narrowly missed the target. Only moments later, the 17-year-old did better: after a dribble from the wing, she struck from the edge of the box to give Vienna a 1–0 lead.
Vienna kept up the pressure. In the 8th minute, Amuchie crossed dangerously into the box, with Fankhauser just failing to connect at the far post. Three minutes later, Kerschbaumer was again at the center of the action. After she was fouled, the referee awarded a penalty. Osl stepped up confidently and converted for 2–0.
Sipos pulls one back
Defensively, Vienna looked solid for the most part, though mistakes in build-up play gave the home side some opportunities. One such error led to a free kick at the edge of the box, which Sipos converted via the inside post to make it 1–2.
Chances in quick succession
Vienna responded unfazed. Kover set up Kerschbaumer, whose strike hit the post (23’). Just a minute later, Sarac unleashed a long-range shot after a fine move involving Amuchie and Kerschbaumer to restore the two-goal cushion at 3–1.
The attacking fireworks continued: Pfanner rattled the crossbar with a shot from distance, and Fankhauser couldn’t finish when through on goal – but she made amends in the 40th minute, blasting in from the edge of the box to make it 4–1.
Pfanner makes it 5 before the break
Just before halftime, Vienna’s keeper had to come up big in a one-on-one to preserve the lead, and with some luck, the visitors survived another dangerous moment after a cross off the post.
Then, right before the whistle, Pfanner struck from long range to make it 5–1 at halftime.
Vienna keeps pushing
Vienna came out unchanged after the break and immediately sought to add to their tally. In the 53rd minute, Pfanner powered down the wing and delivered a cross into the center, where Schneiderbauer headed home for 6–1.
Hosts pull one back from a corner
Moments later, Vienna’s defense briefly lost concentration. After a corner, the ball wasn’t cleared properly, and Wagner pounced to make it 2–6.
In the 61st minute, Vienna reacted with a double substitution: Felix and Höcherl came on for Amuchie and Pfanner. The switch paid off – in the 71st, Höcherl was on hand to convert a rebound after keeper Fazekas’ save, restoring the five-goal lead at 7–2.
Südburgenland still dangerous
With a quarter of an hour remaining, Vienna made another double change: Havel and Gorges replaced Fankhauser and Kerschbaumer. Despite the clear lead, the hosts remained dangerous. In the 82nd, Rozmis found space in the box from a free kick and headed in unmarked for 3–7.
Sarac seals the win
Five minutes from time, Sarac struck again, finishing first-time inside the area to make it 8–3 for Vienna. Shortly after, Tomczak replaced Hahn before the match ended in a convincing away win.
