Big win at the Campus for our Amateurs
In the third round of the Wiener Stadtliga, our Amateurs hosted SV Gerasdorf Stammersdorf. Almost exactly a year ago, the same matchup at this venue ended in a memorable 6-1 victory – and history repeated itself.
Energetic start and early lead
From last year’s successful side, Valtchev, Nagele, Birkhan, and Zeidler were in the starting XI this time. The team immediately took control and created two good chances within the first five minutes. In the 7th minute, they were rewarded: after a corner, Valtchev struck cleanly into the corner to make it 1-0.
Fluid attacking play pays off
Vienna kept pressing with varied attacking moves, forcing the visitors into deep defensive work. Clear chances were initially missed, while Gerasdorf had their first opportunity after 15 minutes from a corner, but the shot sailed over the bar. The relief was short-lived – Vienna continued to play attractive football and carve out chances. After Staudinger and Nagele went close, Ellen converted a Staudinger pass in the 28th minute to double the lead.
Gerasdorf fight back
Only seconds later, Lindmoser had the third goal on his boot but couldn’t finish Birkhan’s fine setup. Although nothing suggested a turnaround, Gerasdorf suddenly came alive. Their first attacks were defended, but in the 38th minute they pulled one back. After a corner, the ball struck a Vienna hand, and in the ensuing scramble Rossak reacted quickest to score for 2-1. Just moments later, Valtchev acrobatically cleared a Bora lob off the line, and keeper Troindl denied the equalizer twice more, including a strong stop from a free kick right before halftime.
High tempo after the break
Both teams pushed the pace after the restart, but neither created clear chances at first. As Gerasdorf committed players forward in search of the equalizer, spaces opened up for Vienna’s counterattacks.
Four goals in eight minutes
Vienna punished those gaps in spectacular fashion. Grigoryan stopped Staudinger’s lob once, but in the 57th minute Pistrol was perfectly set up and coolly made it 3-1.
Substitutes Heller, Höflich, and Rammer then entered and immediately blended into the game. Gerasdorf continued to attack, but that only left more space. In the 61st minute, Staudinger raced clear and once again showed vision, feeding Birkhan for 4-1. Just two minutes later, Birkhan returned the favor, assisting Staudinger for 5-1. In the 65th minute, Weitmayr set up Zeidler, who made it 6-1 with another neat finish.
Calm ending
With the match decided, Gerasdorf sought consolation but rarely troubled Troindl. On the other end, substitute Jerabek was denied by Grigoryan. Otherwise, little else happened, and – just like last year – it ended in a 6-1 victory.
Coach Tuna was not entirely satisfied afterward, pointing to the weak spell before halftime and early in the second half. However, he was clearly pleased with the team’s improvement in movement, variety, and tempo in buildup play.
