Women’s Vienna Derby at the Verteilerkreis

The ADMIRAL Women’s Bundesliga has a true highlight on the schedule this weekend. On Sunday, September 7, First Vienna FC 1894 will face Austria Vienna in the fourth round. The match at the Verteilerkreis kicks off at 12:30 p.m.

One thing the still young season has already shown: when Vienna plays, goals are guaranteed. With eleven goals scored, Vienna currently boasts the league’s best attack. However, they’ve only managed to turn this strength into points once so far. Time and again, defensive lapses have led to goals conceded and valuable points lost.

Head coach Mark Dobrounig is looking forward to the upcoming derby:
"The match against Austria is, of course, something very special. We want to build on our performances from the last three games. For that, we need to approach the match with more focus, in order to make clearer and more consistent decisions. We’ll have to give one hundred percent concentration over the full 90 minutes, since we know Austria has strong individual quality. But we’ve also seen that we can cause problems for any defense, and naturally, we want to score one or two goals against Austria as well."

Vienna lost their last match against Sturm Graz 3–5. Over the 90 minutes, the Blue and Yellows were the dominant side, but the Graz team managed to capitalize on every mistake and convert them into goals. Until the very last minute, however, Vienna never gave up and put on a great show for the 1,142 spectators—even if the final scoreline was not what they had hoped for.

Austria, meanwhile, won their first two league matches of the season. Most recently, the Veilchen also qualified for the third qualifying round of the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Their scheduled third-round match against St. Pölten has been postponed to the end of September.

We hope many fans will join us for this game and give us strong support.
