Vienna Face Off Against the Young Violets
Back from the international break: Our men’s first team will face the Young Violets Austria Wien away this coming Saturday at 20:00. The match marks the comeback of Hans Kleer as Vienna’s head coach, who officially took on his new role this week.
Hans Kleer is Back!
Hans Kleer is once again on the sidelines of Austria’s oldest football club. After seven years, the 56-year-old returned to Hohe Warte this week and led his first training session on Tuesday. He used the time to get to know the squad better and gain a first impression. On Saturday, the new head coach and his team will immediately face their first test in the away match against the Young Violets.
Hans Kleer on his start:
“The first days have been very intense. It was important for me to quickly get to know the players and their strengths while also sending clear messages. We want to appear as one unit—only then can we be successful.”
Fresh energy to get back on track
Before the international break, Vienna collected only two points from their last three league matches, dropping to sixth place in the standings. However, the gap to second-placed FAC is just two points, and only five points separate Vienna from league leaders St. Pölten. Vienna is therefore still in an excellent position to challenge the top spots. In their last outing, Döbling’s team drew 1–1 with Austria Lustenau after taking the lead. With a successful restart, they aim to stay close to the top of the table.
The new head coach emphasizes:
“Of course, we need results—wins are the best way to gain confidence. What matters is that we consistently execute the basics and work together as a team to improve step by step.”
Young Violets Back in the Second League
The return of this year’s promoted side to the second league has been more than successful. After five rounds, they have collected ten points, which places Maximilian Uhlig’s team in fourth place in the standings. Former Vienna striker Philipp Hosiner has already proven his goal-scoring qualities, having netted three times so far this season.
The match against the Young Violets is immediately an important test for Kleer:
“I expect us to show from the very first minute that we want to win. We want to play courageously—with and without the ball—and build the self-confidence we need.”
