1–1 at the Young Violets: Points shared at the Verteilerkreis
Vienna earned a 1–1 draw away at the Young Violets in their first match under new head coach Hans Kleer. After a dream start with Seo’s early goal (3’), the Blue-Yellows delivered an energetic performance for long stretches but conceded the equalizer before halftime. Despite several chances in the second half, the winning goal would not come.
In the 6th round of the ADMIRAL 2. Liga, the Blue-Yellows faced an away fixture at the Verteilerkreis. It was their first match under the leadership of new coach Hans Kleer. Compared to the final match before the international break against Austria Lustenau, Kleer made a few changes: Edelhofer came into the starting lineup for the injured Djuricin, Luxbacher returned, and Seo started in place of Bauer.
Dream start for Döbling
Vienna got off to the perfect start. In the 3rd minute, Abdijanovic played a precise pass to Seo on the right wing. The Korean surged into the penalty area with determination and finished from a tight angle to make it 1–0 for Vienna.
Chances at both ends
After the early lead, Vienna continued to move the ball well and looked to transition quickly. But the hosts also had their opportunities: in the 11th minute, Mörth tried his luck from distance but missed narrowly.
Moments later, the Blue-Yellows nearly doubled their lead: in the 13th minute, Susso met a cross with his head, but the ball flew just wide. Seo remained lively, repeatedly testing the Young Violets’ defense – sometimes shooting wide, sometimes winning corners. After a corner, Edelhofer also had a good chance, but his shot went over the bar.
Young Violets equalize
While Vienna pressed forward, the hosts showed danger from set pieces. In the 27th minute, goalkeeper Unger had to tip a header over the bar with a strong save. But in the 35th minute he was beaten: a cross found Lukic lurking in the middle, and he slotted home to make it 1–1.
Almost ahead again before halftime
Vienna did not lose focus after the equalizer and kept attacking. In the 40th minute, Abdijanovic once again played a perfect pass to Seo, but this time the winger’s first touch was a bit too heavy, and keeper Jusic rushed out quickly to clear.
At halftime, the score stood at a fair 1–1. Vienna had produced some fine attacking play early on and remained threatening even after the equalizer, while both teams created chances in a balanced contest.
Early second-half opportunities
Austria made the first substitution at the break: Stöger replaced Sawicki. Vienna stayed unchanged but came out lively. Just two minutes in, a Rosenberger corner caused trouble – the ball deflected off Szerencsi in the box but went out of play.
The hosts replied in the 50th minute with a dangerous cross, but Unger collected safely. At the other end, a Dantas header from a 55th-minute free kick was too weak. Shortly after, Österreicher shot for the Young Violets but missed the target.
Substitutions add energy
Coach Kleer made his first change in the 61st minute, bringing on Zimmermann for Edelhofer. Immediately, Seo once again broke down the right and into the box, but his cross went straight into Jusic’s hands.
Since Austria continued to threaten, Kleer responded again: in the 67th minute, Titkov and Schmidt replaced Seo and Susso.
Vienna pushes for the win
The Blue-Yellows now searched more actively for a winning goal. In the 71st minute, Luxbacher found Abdijanovic in the box, who shot just wide. Soon after, Luxbacher tried himself after a cross from Rosenberger, but his effort went straight at the keeper.
The best chance of this phase came in the 78th minute: Luxbacher struck from distance, Jusic spilled the ball, Zimmermann set up Schmidt – but the goal was ruled out for offside. A short while later, Luxbacher again found Zimmermann in the box, but the striker couldn’t get a clean shot away under pressure.
Late danger before the final whistle
Vienna remained threatening until the end. In the 88th minute, Abdijanovic curled a free kick over the wall, but Jusic saved superbly. Shortly afterward, Stratznig came on for Abdijanovic. The game then lost intensity in stoppage time.
Final score: A fair draw
After 90 intense minutes, it ended 1–1 at the Verteilerkreis. Vienna showed plenty of commitment and created several chances but could not force the winning goal. In the end, the points were shared fairly.
