Vienna hosts Austria Klagenfurt at Hohe Warte
In the top match of the 7th round of the ADMIRAL 2nd League, Vienna will face Austria Klagenfurt on Friday evening (8:30 p.m.). After some difficult rounds, the team from Döbling wants to get back on track with a home win in front of their own supporters. For coach Hans Kleer, it’s also a very special duel, as he returns to his former place of work.
Eight years ago, Kleer last stood on the sidelines as Vienna coach at Hohe Warte. Back then, they celebrated a 3–0 victory against FC Marchfeld Mannsdorf, with Kurtisi and Todoroski scoring the goals. Now, the team wants to build on those successful times against the Carinthians.
Vienna looking for a breakthrough
Vienna started the season strongly, winning their first three matches, but then lost momentum. In their last five games, they have been unable to secure a full three points, with their most recent league matches ending in three straight draws. In the 1–1 against the Young Violets, Seo gave Vienna a dream start in the 3rd minute, but the hosts equalized before halftime.
Despite the winless run, coach Hans Kleer remains optimistic:
"Our performance last week showed what this team is capable of. Especially in the first 25 minutes and also in phases of the second half, we were very dominant. But we need to sustain such strong phases over a longer period. We also have to turn our superiority in chances into goals more consistently."
Klagenfurt on the rise
Austria Klagenfurt also underwent changes in the summer: following their relegation from the Bundesliga, Rolf Landerl took over as head coach from Carsten Jancker, while Mario Brkljaca joined as sporting director. Despite starting the season with a three-point deduction, the Carinthians managed to win four of their first six games. Last weekend, they beat FAC 2–1 thanks to a late goal.
Kleer expects a tough battle:
"Klagenfurt is very robust; they play an unpleasant, physical style of football. At the back, they take little risk, rely on long balls, and have several players with Bundesliga experience. The key will be how we compete in duels and control their attack. In terms of football, I see us as dominant and stronger, but we need to prove it in the decisive areas."
Excitement guaranteed
Currently, Vienna and Austria Klagenfurt are level on points in 9th place – so excitement is guaranteed when these two traditional clubs face off on Friday.
The coach emphasizes the importance of fan support:
"The atmosphere at Hohe Warte is always fantastic. Especially in our current situation, we need the famous twelfth man more than ever. I am convinced our fans will back us from the very beginning, and we want to reward them with a victory on Friday."
