Vienna secure important three points in Kapfenberg
In Round 8 of the ADMIRAL 2nd League, Vienna traveled to Kapfenberg. The Döbling side started strongly in the Sunday morning clash, went into halftime with a 2–0 lead, and sealed a deserved away win with a stoppage-time goal to make it 3–0.
After five league matches without a win, the Blue and Yellows entered the laola1 top match of the round against the Kapfenberg “Falken” highly motivated.
Early chances for the visitors
Vienna began with focus, secure in possession, and with clear attacking intent. As early as the 2nd minute, Schmidt had a shot inside the box, but Falken keeper Strebinger saved well. Soon after, Rosenberger broke down the wing and crossed to Seo, whose attempt was deflected for a corner.
Vienna continued to dominate: Seo tested the defense with a long-range strike, and Luxbacher was denied by Strebinger after getting on the end of a cross.
Kapfenberg’s first attack
In the 15th minute, the home side showed some threat for the first time: after a long throw-in, Kavaz got a shot away under pressure, but Unger in the Vienna goal dealt with it comfortably.
Vienna push for the opener
The Döbling side remained in control. Chances for Ungar and Seo went begging, as did a powerful header from Schmidt, brilliantly clawed off the line by Strebinger.
Schmidt breaks the deadlock
In the 41st minute, Vienna finally took the lead they deserved: Ungar set up Seo, whose shot was cleared off the line, but Schmidt reacted quickly and tucked in the rebound for 1–0.
Luxbacher doubles the lead before halftime
Just before the break, Vienna struck again: Ungar tried his luck, a Kapfenberg defender deflected the ball, and captain Luxbacher pounced, making it 2–0 — a well-earned halftime cushion for the Blue and Yellows.
Vienna stay focused – Kapfenberg react with changes
Vienna resumed without changes, while the Falken responded with a double substitution, bringing on Kadlec and Rostas. The pattern of play, however, remained much the same: Vienna looked solid defensively and dangerous going forward. Szerencsi had a headed chance from a corner in the 48th minute, but missed narrowly.
Unger denies Hassler
Kapfenberg’s best chance came in the 53rd minute: Kadlec won the ball and sent Hassler through, but keeper Unger came out on top in the one-on-one, preventing the equalizer.
That moment gave the hosts a push, but Vienna stayed compact and allowed little real danger inside their own penalty area.
Fresh energy from Kleer’s bench
Coach Hans Kleer responded in the 61st minute, introducing Susso and Nnamdi. The match became more scrappy and physical, but Vienna stood firm. In the 73rd minute, Edelhofer and Zimmermann came on for Ungar and Schmidt, providing fresh impetus up front.
Kapfenberg push – Vienna stay firm
The home side created another big chance in the 75th minute, but again Unger was there to deny them. Vienna, less attacking in this phase, still carried a threat on the break. In the 79th minute, Zimmermann forced the Steirers’ defense to concede a corner with a solid effort.
Kapfenberg threw everything forward late on, but Szerencsi cleared one last dangerous situation in the 85th minute before Vienna wrapped up the win: Zimmermann scored in stoppage time to make it 3–0.
Deserved away victory
After a strong first half in terms of play and a solid, battling performance in the second, Vienna secured the three points safely. The team not only ended their winless run but also boosted their confidence ahead of the upcoming derby against FAC (www.1894.at/tickets).
