Vienna defeated by Kleinmünchen 0–1
In Round 7 of the ADMIRAL Women’s Bundesliga, Vienna faced Union Kleinmünchen/BW Linz. In a match that remained open for a long time, the visitors took a fortunate lead and defended it until the end.
Coach Mark Dobrounig made three changes compared to the previous week: Fankhauser replaced Sarac, Wende started in goal instead of Piplits, and Lena Kovar returned to the starting eleven in place of Gebert.
No goals early on
Vienna started well and created several approaches toward the opponent’s goal. A long-range effort from Kerschbaumer missed narrowly. But the visitors also had their first chance following a corner, though it came to nothing. It developed into an open game, largely controlled by Vienna, but the Linz side remained dangerous on the counterattack.
Osl with a headed chance
As the first half progressed, the game slowed somewhat. Only shortly before the break did Vienna carve out another chance. Höcherl delivered a fine free-kick cross into the box, Osl rose highest and headed toward goal, but the ball drifted wide. The first half ended 0–0.
Bright start to the second half
After the restart, Vienna immediately had the first chance. Fankhauser received the ball in the penalty area, but her shot went over the bar. Moments later, Kovar fired from the edge of the box, her shot bouncing dangerously off the turf, but keeper Zangerl managed to save with difficulty. The Vienna captain was involved again soon after — her effort was cleared off the line at the last second.
Double substitution for Vienna
Coach Dobrounig reacted with a double change: Wasser and Sarac came on for Fankhauser and Felix.
Vienna continued to push. Osl again had a header, but it lacked the necessary power and was saved. Shortly after, Wasser tried her luck with a direct free-kick, but without success.
Setback for Vienna
Completely against the run of play, the visitors took the lead. Osl lost possession, and Jana Sachs pounced, finishing into the empty net. In response, Dobrounig brought on Havel as another attacking option.
Late efforts without reward
In the 85th minute, striker Lueger was also introduced. She almost made an immediate impact, but her shot went over the Linz goal. In stoppage time, Lueger had another chance with a lob, but it also went wide. The match ended in a 0–1 defeat.
