Vienna starts with an away win after the international break
In the 10th round of the ADMIRAL 2nd League, Vienna celebrated an important away victory against Sturm II. Zimmermann put the Döbling side ahead shortly before halftime, and Schmidt sealed the 2–0 final score in stoppage time. The Blue and Yellows deservedly took three points back from Styria.
After the international break, Vienna’s first match was an away fixture against the youngsters of Sturm Graz. The game took place at the Solarstadion in Gleisdorf, where coach Kleer’s team faced Sturm II. Compared to the last match before the break against FAC, Kleer made several changes to his starting lineup: Susso and Zimmermann started up front, while Titkov also came into the eleven.
Lively start on both sides
The match began at a high pace. Both teams played with commitment, looked to attack early, and tried to put their opponents under pressure. There were some dangerous approaches to both penalty areas, but no clear chances at first. The first real danger came in the 10th minute when a Graz free kick went straight on target — no problem, however, for Vienna keeper Unger.
First chances for the Döbling side
Just three minutes later, Vienna had their first big opportunity: a long ball forward found Susso, who nearly broke free, but Sturm goalkeeper Lorenz reacted quickly and cleared just in time.
In the 18th minute, the Blue and Yellows again appeared dangerously in the Styrian penalty area. After a quick attack down the right side, Bauer crossed sharply into the middle, but the Graz defense managed to clear just before Susso could reach it. Shortly afterward, a free kick from Seo created danger — Okungbowa got his head to it, but Lorenz saved on the line for Sturm II.
Vienna pushes for the lead
Vienna showed a focused and technically strong performance, controlling the game for stretches and repeatedly creating danger in attack. In the 33rd minute, Zimmermann tried to volley a cross from Rosenberger, but his shot went wide.
Zimmermann rewards the attacking play
In the 39th minute, it finally happened: Rosenberger delivered a precise ball into the box, and Zimmermann was perfectly positioned to head home for a deserved 1–0 lead for the Döbling side.
Vienna continued to dominate late in the first half. In the 43rd minute, Rosenberger tested the home team with a dangerous ball that was deflected for a corner. With no added time, Vienna went into the break with a narrow but well-earned lead.
Vienna starts the second half strongly
Vienna came out unchanged and immediately picked up where they left off. Right after the restart, a corner caused trouble in the Graz penalty area. The ball fell to Susso, who tried a backheel finish, but goalkeeper Lorenz was alert and saved.
Open game with chances on both sides
Vienna remained active, but Sturm II also grew into the game. In the 52nd minute, Szerencsi had to intervene to prevent a good chance for the hosts. Shortly afterward, Vienna created danger again — Dantas shot from the edge of the box, but his effort went well over.
The Styrians also tried their luck from distance — a shot in the 54th minute went straight into Unger’s hands. After an hour, the home team made a double substitution to bring in fresh legs.
Vienna stays dangerous but misses the decision
In the 64th minute, Vienna combined beautifully going forward: Susso set up Zimmermann, whose shot was brilliantly saved by the Sturm keeper. The rebound was cleared just in time by the Graz defense. Shortly after, Seo and Dantas both tried their luck from distance, but both shots went over the bar.
In the 75th minute, Vienna had another big chance: after a quick counterattack, Susso passed to Zimmermann, who broke into the box and shot — Lorenz produced a stunning save to tip the ball for a corner.
Solid finish and deserved three points
Graz had one more dangerous chance in the 80th minute, but their shot sailed well over the Vienna goal. A few minutes later, Sturm made another substitution. In the 83rd minute, a high ball reached Seo in the box, but his shot also went over. Then Vienna made their first substitution: Edelhofer replaced Seo.
After several stoppages, the referee indicated nine minutes of added time. Coach Kleer reacted again, bringing on fresh players — Zahirovic for Rosenberger and Schmidt for Susso. The move paid off: in the 99th minute, Schmidt finished a counterattack to make it 2–0, sealing the victory.
With this well-deserved 2–0 win, Vienna returned from the international break with an important three points. Next week, the traditional duel against Admira awaits at home on the Hohe Warte. Tickets are already available in advance at www.1894.at/tickets.
