Vienna falls 0–5 to record champions St. Pölten
In the 10th round of the ADMIRAL Women’s Bundesliga, Vienna hosted serial champions SKN St. Pölten at the Hohe Warte. After trailing 0–2 at halftime, the Blue and Yellows ultimately suffered a 0–5 defeat.
Early setback despite committed start
Vienna began the match with energy and tried from the start to make an impact offensively. However, after just six minutes, the Döbling side suffered their first setback: a long ball from St. Pölten found Brunold, who broke through one-on-one against Piplits and calmly slotted in to make it 1–0 for the visitors.
Vienna shows a response
Despite the early deficit, Vienna wasn’t discouraged and created a good attacking move just two minutes later. A sharp cross from Amuchie was cleared by the visitors’ defense. Shortly after, Kerschbaumer delivered another dangerous ball into the box, but again the St. Pölten defenders cleared just before the lurking Pfanner could reach it. The resulting short corner ended with a shot from Pfanner, but the champions’ goalkeeper tipped it over the bar.
St. Pölten clinical in front of goal
As the game went on, SKN St. Pölten increasingly took control of the play. Vienna kept trying, looking for chances through quick counterattacks, but in the 19th minute, St. Pölten struck again. Another long ball found Elmore, who appeared free in front of Piplits and finished coldly to make it 2–0.
Vienna fights but can’t find a way through
Vienna now came under more pressure and struggled to get out of their own half. In the 22nd minute, the guests threatened again, but a shot from the edge of the box narrowly missed the target. The home side continued to search for attacking options but found little space, often forced into long balls by St. Pölten’s compact defense.
Glimmer of hope before halftime
In the 37th minute, Vienna had one of their few clear chances: Hahn laid the ball off to Pfanner inside the box, but her shot was deflected over the bar at the last moment. Just before halftime, Vienna again moved forward dangerously — in the 44th minute, Amuchie played a pass to Höcherl, who was flagged narrowly offside, ending the attack.
Vienna went into the break trailing 0–2.
Vienna starts the second half with determination
Both teams came out unchanged, but Vienna looked much more active at the start of the second half. With higher pressing and early challenges, the Döbling women tried to turn the tide. In the 54th minute came their best chance so far: a free kick from Höcherl was swung dangerously into the box, and Pfanner’s header missed the near post by inches — Vienna’s biggest opportunity of the game so far.
Pressure phase without reward
Just two minutes later, Pfanner tried again, this time from distance, but her shot flew over the crossbar. The visitors reacted to Vienna’s growing pressure, bringing on Aistleitner and Rukavina — both former Vienna players. Still, Vienna stayed on the front foot for now: in the 60th minute, Kerschbaumer found space in the box and squared the ball, but the finish failed to find the net.
St. Pölten capitalizes on the next lapse
In the 64th minute, St. Pölten once again showed their clinical edge. A long pass split the Vienna defense, Piplits rushed out to intercept, but Elmore won the duel and calmly finished to make it 3–0. Just two minutes later, Piplits made a strong save to prevent another goal and kept her team in the match.
Missed penalty chance
In the 71st minute, Vienna made their first substitution: Fankhauser came on for Pfanner. Shortly afterward, Sarac dribbled determinedly into the box and laid the ball off to Hahn, who was brought down — the referee pointed to the spot. Youngster Osl stepped up, but the SKN goalkeeper guessed correctly and saved the penalty, denying Vienna a deserved goal.
St. Pölten seals the deal
In the 83rd minute, St. Pölten increased their lead to 4–0 through Woelki, who scored with a long-range shot. Immediately after, Vienna made their final substitution, with Wasser replacing Höcherl. In stoppage time, Brunold struck again to make it 5–0 and put the finishing touch on the match.
In the remaining minutes, St. Pölten managed the result confidently and saw out a comfortable victory. Vienna showed spirit and created some good moments in the second half but ultimately couldn’t find the net. SKN St. Pölten once again demonstrated their efficiency and secured the win with routine composure.
