Vienna remain without points against Admira
In the 11th round of the ADMIRAL 2nd League, Vienna lost 1–3 at home to Admira. After conceding an early goal, they briefly managed to equalize before the visitors decided the game in the second half.
Compared to last week, head coach Hans Kleer had to make some changes to his starting lineup: the injured Rosenberger was ruled out, with Zahirovic taking his place. Edelhofer started instead of Seo. Abdijanovic was absent due to illness, as were long-term injuries Alozie, Dilek, Ungar, Rusek, Monschein, and Djuricin.
Early setback for Vienna
The match could hardly have started worse for the team from Döbling. Less than a minute had been played when a high ball into Vienna’s penalty area led to the first dangerous situation. After a tussle between Okungbowa and Admira striker Schmidt, the referee awarded a penalty — a harsh but defensible decision. Gemicibasi stepped up and converted confidently to make it 1–0 for the visitors from Südstadt.
Vienna seek a quick response
After the early setback, Vienna tried to take control of the match. They showed attacking intent but couldn’t turn their efforts into a goal.
Their best chance to equalize came from an Edelhofer free kick: Okungbowa rose highest in the box and headed powerfully against the crossbar — unlucky for the blue-and-yellows, lucky for Admira.
Set pieces as the main threat
Vienna continued to be most dangerous from set pieces. In the 32nd minute, another Edelhofer free kick flew into the area, but Admira goalkeeper Steinbauer reacted quickly and punched the ball away before the incoming attackers could capitalize.
Late first-half effort
Just before halftime, the hosts tried to increase the pressure once more. A long throw-in caused no danger, and the following corner found Zimmermann, whose shot, however, lacked power.
Vienna went into the break trailing 0–1. In an overall chance-poor first half, the hosts lacked the finishing touch in front of goal.
No changes at halftime
Both teams returned unchanged after the break. The first chance fell to the visitors: in the 48th minute, an Admira attacker suddenly found himself free in front of goalkeeper Unger but lost control of the ball — a let-off for Vienna.
Vienna push for the equalizer
Vienna then took command and pushed Admira deeper into their own half. The blue-and-yellows combined neatly in attack but struggled to find the decisive pass, with Steinbauer always alert in goal.
After a cross from Luxbacher, Vienna had a header chance, but it posed no danger. Moments later, Dantas tried his luck from distance — on target, but no real test for Steinbauer. Edelhofer also fired a long-range shot, again saved by the Admira keeper.
While Vienna pressed forward, Admira defended compactly and waited for counterattacks, which the home side managed to prevent for the most part.
Zimmermann brings Vienna level
In the 60th minute, the visitors made their first change, with Schwarz replacing Ajanovic. But soon it was Vienna’s turn to celebrate: a long ball found Zimmermann, who held off Steinbauer in a one-on-one and finished coolly for 1–1 — a deserved reward for the hosts’ strong spell.
Double strike decides the game
However, the joy didn’t last long. In the 65th minute, after a corner, Ristanic took advantage of a lapse in Vienna’s defense to restore Admira’s lead at 2–1.
Coach Hans Kleer reacted by bringing on Seo and Schmidt for Edelhofer and Titkov to add attacking impetus. But once again, Admira struck — after a failed clearance by Szerencsi, the ball fell to Schwarz, who fired home from about 16 meters to make it 3–1.
Late changes – no comeback
In the 76th minute, Nnamdi replaced Okungbowa, and shortly before the end, Birkhahn came on for goalscorer Zimmermann (87th minute). Despite their efforts, Vienna couldn’t find another goal late on.
In the end, the Döbling side had to concede a 1–3 defeat to a clinical and composed Admira — a result that didn’t quite reflect the course of the match, as Vienna were spirited and at times the better team.
