Wienerberg Steal All Three Points

Wienerberg Steal All Three Points

In the top match of the round, the Vienna Amateurs hosted SV Wienerberg. After defeats against LAC and Helfort, our team was determined to get back to winning ways, while Wienerberg had the chance to take over the top spot in the table with a victory.

No Cautious Start

Both teams started the match with great energy — there was no sign of cautious probing. Vienna had the better moments in the opening minutes, but it wasn’t until the 8th minute that Stogiannidis had the first big chance. Set up perfectly on the right-hand side, he had the option to pass across or finish himself. As often happens in such situations, it ended up being half a pass and half a shot — missing teammates, opponents, and the goal alike.

After about 15 minutes, Staudinger had a golden opportunity to put Vienna ahead. Höflich played a brilliant through ball into the gap, but Staudinger’s shot went just wide. In this lively opening phase, Vienna were the more dangerous side but couldn’t capitalize. Another promising attack followed, but the visiting goalkeeper intercepted a Birkhan cross just before it reached Staudinger.

Wienerberg Take Control

Gradually, however, dark clouds gathered — both literally and figuratively. Wienerberg began to organize themselves better, pressing Vienna’s buildup play early with their forwards and staying compact as a unit with well-coordinated movement between the lines. As a result, they started winning more balls in midfield, and their attacking play became increasingly threatening.

Two Goals in Ten Minutes

In the 31st minute, Wienerberg attacked down the right flank. The ensuing cross wasn’t dealt with properly, and Güllü, unmarked at the far post, easily gave the visitors the lead.

Wienerberg were now settled and allowed almost no further danger. Only Milic had a good chance in the 34th minute after a fine pass from Stogiannidis, but he lacked the decisiveness to shoot, instead looking for a teammate — unsuccessfully. Wienerberg, on the other hand, showed how it’s done: in the 41st minute, the team from Favoriten combined superbly with quick one-touch play, and Hüttmair finished clinically to make it 2–0.

Unrewarded Effort After the Break

The story of the second half is quickly told. Vienna tried hard but struggled to find any openings. The visitors, disciplined and well-organized as a unit, rarely allowed any forays into the danger zone — and when they did, the Vienna attacks were stopped by the central defenders or, if necessary, by goalkeeper Höfler.

At the other end, Troindl still had a few saves to make, but overall Wienerberg looked the more purposeful side that afternoon. In the pouring rain, the game fizzled out rather uneventfully, with the visitors comfortably seeing out their two-goal lead.
