Exciting Duel Ends in a 3–2 Defeat for Vienna
Vienna suffered a narrow 3–2 defeat against SKU Amstetten in the 12th round of the ADMIRAL 2nd League after an intense match. A brace from Seo initially turned the game around for the Döbling side, before two set-piece goals from the visitors restored the lead.
Vienna once again hosted a home match in the 12th round of the ADMIRAL 2nd League, welcoming SKU Amstetten to the Hohe Warte. There were three changes to the starting lineup: Nnamdi started in place of Okungbowa, and Seo replaced Zahirovic. A positive note for Vienna: Rosenberger returned to the starting eleven, and striker Marco Djuricin made the bench again after his injury.
Early Offensive Actions from Vienna
The home side started with intent, immediately pushing forward. In the second minute, Szerencsi rose highest to meet a corner, but his header went just wide.
Amstetten also posed danger early on: following a quick counterattack, Gragger got a central shot away, but Vienna’s defense cleared. Shortly afterward, the visitors were unlucky when a long-range effort struck the post — a moment of good fortune for the Blue and Yellows.
Falling Behind After Losing Possession
Another Vienna corner created danger in the 6th minute, with Dantas heading on goal, but goalkeeper Estevao was alert.
In the 13th minute, the hosts suffered their first setback. After losing possession in midfield, Amstetten countered quickly. Former Vienna player Peham set up Conateh, who finished clinically from inside the box to make it 1–0 for Amstetten.
Vienna Struggles to Break Through
Despite trailing, Vienna kept pushing but found few openings against Amstetten’s well-organized defense. In the 26th minute, Seo tried his luck from 18 meters, but his shot drifted narrowly wide.
Clear scoring chances remained scarce for both sides until the break. After another dangerous Vienna corner, Estevao once again handled the ball safely. The intensity of the match eased shortly before halftime, though Conateh did get another chance, but he pushed the ball slightly too far, allowing keeper Unger to intervene. Vienna also took one final shot before the whistle, but entered halftime trailing 1–0.
Exciting Start to the Second Half
Both teams emerged unchanged. The first dangerous action after the restart came from the visitors: in the 51st minute, following a corner, the ball fell to Peham at a sharp angle, but Unger reacted excellently. A minute later, Unger was called into action again, saving a shot from Köchel to keep Vienna in the match.
Seo’s Stunning Strike Brings the Equalizer
In the 55th minute, Vienna found their way back into the game. Seo powered forward through midfield and fired from distance — his shot flew beautifully into the top corner, leaving Estevao no chance. A spectacular goal from the Korean to level the match at 1–1.
Seo Completes the Turnaround
The game gained intensity. Vienna stayed on the attack while Amstetten looked to counter. In the 64th minute, Vienna were rewarded: after a quick move, Zimmermann delivered a perfect cross, and Seo finished coolly to give Vienna a 2–1 lead.
Amstetten Responds Immediately
Just two minutes later, coach Kleer substituted Djuricin and Edelhofer for Susso and two-goal hero Seo. But the joy didn’t last: in the 68th minute, a free kick was swung into the box, Wimmer rose above Szerencsi, and headed in to level the score at 2–2. Shortly afterward, another header from an Amstetten corner went just wide — Vienna was fortunate.
Bitter Blow from Another Set Piece
The match became more open, but once again Amstetten capitalized on a dead ball. In the 75th minute, Steiger delivered a dangerous free kick into the box. The ball sailed past everyone and ended up in the far corner — 3–2 for Amstetten. Coach Kleer brought on Stratznig for Dantas to inject fresh energy.
Vienna Pushes in Vain
Amstetten focused on defending while Vienna pressed forward. In the 82nd minute, Zahirovic and Schmidt entered for Rosenberger and Titkov. The hosts pushed hard, and six minutes of added time were signaled.
Stratznig fired over the bar after a corner, and shortly afterward Luxbacher attempted an acrobatic bicycle kick, missing just wide.
Bitter Defeat After a Hard Battle
Despite great spirit and determination, Vienna narrowly fell 3–2 to SKU Amstetten. After an intense match full of momentum shifts, the team was not rewarded for their fighting performance.
