Vienna Women Advance to the Quarter-Finals
Vienna prevailed in the traditional duel against USC Landhaus. The Blue and Yellows came from behind to win the match 4–2, securing their place in the quarter-finals of the ÖFB Women’s Cup.
Right from the first minute, Vienna tried to put the home side under early pressure and take control of the game. USC Landhaus attempted to threaten on the counterattack, but the Vienna defense managed to neutralize these efforts in the opening phase.
Landhaus Take the Lead
In the 12th minute, USC Landhaus took the lead against the run of play. After a corner kick, Melchior struck from outside the box, her shot finding the inside of the near post for the opening goal.
Lueger Equalizes
Vienna’s response didn’t take long. In the 23rd minute, Havel—making her first start for Vienna—won the ball on the right side and drove it forward. She delivered a perfect cross into the middle for Lueger, who made no mistake with the excellent chance and scored the equalizer.
Pfanner Hits the Crossbar
Until halftime, the match continued much as it had begun: Vienna were the superior side and allowed very little at the back. The best opportunity to take the lead fell to Pfanner, whose shot from around 16 meters struck the crossbar. The teams went into the break tied 1–1.
Double Substitution for Vienna
At halftime, coach Dobrounig made two changes: Höcherl and Wasser came on for Sarac and Havel—a move that would soon pay off.
Wasser Makes It 2–1
In the 49th minute, USC Landhaus attempted to build from the back. Pfanner pressed aggressively, won the ball, and played it to Wasser. The Vienna captain stayed ice-cold in front of goal and scored the deserved 2–1 lead.
Höcherl Extends the Lead
Shortly after, Vienna made it 3–1. Höcherl, who had also come on at halftime, received the ball in the penalty area. She executed a smart turn and fired beautifully into the far corner.
Landhaus Pull One Back
With a 3–1 lead, Vienna had full control of the match. But shortly before the end, the hosts became dangerous again. After a quick counterattack, the ball ended up with Ismajli, who reduced the deficit.
Wasser Scores Her Second
Vienna were not shaken and even managed to score once more. Again it was Höcherl who accelerated down the left and delivered a precise cross. Captain Wasser headed it in to complete her brace. Vienna won the match 4–2 and secured their place in the quarter-finals.
