Vienna Leave Bregenz Empty-Handed
In the 15th round of the ADMIRAL 2nd League, Vienna travelled to SW Bregenz. After trailing 0–1 at halftime, the Blue-and-Yellow conceded two more goals in the second half and ultimately returned to Vienna without any points.
During the Sunday matinee, Coach Kleer’s team faced SW Bregenz. Compared to the home win against Rapid II, however, the Döbling side was forced to make several changes: Captain Luxbacher and defender Bauer were suspended due to yellow cards, while Szerencsi and Edelhofer were out with injuries. As a result, four new players—Djuricin, Zahirovic, Nnamdi, and Titkov—moved into the starting lineup.
Perfect conditions despite the cold
Despite low temperatures, the sunshine provided ideal conditions in Vorarlberg. Vienna tried to take control of the match from the start. However, the first chance belonged to the hosts: in the third minute, Vienna was caught on the counter, but Giuliani dealt with the situation safely.
Vienna apply pressure, Bregenz defend compactly
Vienna remained the more offensively active team. Bottom-of-the-table Bregenz focused on a tight defensive structure and waited for counterattacks. In the 14th minute, Seo crossed into the box for Zimmermann, whose header went wide. Two minutes later, a Rosenberger cross again found Zimmermann, but this time the referee called a foul on the striker.
Cold shower: Bregenz score to make it 1–0
In the 17th minute, the setback arrived: a pass from Bregenz slipped past three Vienna players and found Tartarotti, who finished to give the hosts a 1–0 lead. Vienna tried to respond immediately, but Djuricin’s shot posed no major problems for the home keeper.
Giuliani makes a spectacular save
In the 33rd minute, Bregenz once again threatened. Giuliani reacted instantly and clawed the ball off the line with an outstanding save. No further significant chances emerged on either side before the break, and Vienna went into halftime trailing 0–1.
Double debut at halftime
Vienna reacted at the break, bringing on Pistrol for Zahirovic and Nagele for Titkov. For both youngsters, the substitution marked their debut in the ADMIRAL 2nd League.
Just minutes after the restart, Vienna created their first major opportunity. A precise cross from Nnamdi found Seo, who headed towards goal. But the Bregenz goalkeeper denied the potential equaliser with a brilliant stop.
Bregenz double their lead to 2–0
Shortly afterwards came the next blow: a high ball bypassed the Vienna defence and landed at the feet of Stefanon, who stayed cool and slotted home for 2–0.
In the 61st minute, Vienna increased their attacking options by bringing on Schmidt and Abdijanovic for Djuricin and Zimmermann. However, the hoped-for momentum shift did not materialise. Instead, Bregenz extended their lead to 3–0 in the 65th minute, as—much like the first goal—a ball slipped past the Vienna defence and Tartarotti finished again.
In the 78th minute, another youngster celebrated his substitution: Zeidler came on for Seo.
Vienna lack cutting edge
Vienna pushed for a consolation goal in the closing phase, but Bregenz defended solidly and allowed nothing more. In the end, the Blue-and-Yellow suffered a clear away defeat.
On a positive note, both Pistrol and Nagele made their ADMIRAL 2nd League debuts. On 13 December, Vienna will face Austria Salzburg away before heading into the winter break.
