Vienna celebrate victory in first friendly
As part of their winter preparations, Vienna played their first friendly match on Friday, 16 January, against SV Leobendorf. Vienna delivered a convincing performance in their opening warm-up game and defeated the Regionalliga East leaders 3–1.
Odagaki scores on his debut
The third-division side Leobendorf started the match boldly, while Vienna initially tried to find their rhythm through a composed passing game. On the slippery pitch conditions, this proved difficult at first. Nevertheless, Vienna scored the opening goal of the match: Seo made a run down the right flank and played a pass into the center, where new signing Odagaki was waiting and finished to make it 1–0.
Leobendorf equalise
Leobendorf were not discouraged by the early setback and created several dangerous chances. Vienna goalkeeper Christopher Giuliani distinguished himself on multiple occasions. However, in the 19th minute Giuliani was helpless when Leobendorf equalised with a fine long-range shot.
The match then lost some of its tempo, with fewer chances at both ends, and the teams went into the short halftime break level at 1–1.
Two quick goals after the break
Vienna once again struck first in the second half. Abdijanovic played a well-timed through ball into the path of Zimmermann, who calmly converted to restore Vienna’s lead. Shortly afterwards, Vienna extended their advantage. Zimmermann set up Zeidler on the right wing, and the striker fired home with a superb finish to make it 3–1.
Vienna remained in control for the rest of the match and saw the game out comfortably. Coach Hans Kleer’s team secured a confident 3–1 win in their first friendly of 2026.
