Vienna sign player from FC Bayern
First Vienna FC 1894 have completed a new signing from Munich. Max Mergner joins Austria’s oldest football club during the winter transfer window from FC Bayern Munich II. The midfielder has signed a contract with the blue and yellow side until summer 2027, including an option for a further season, and is set to strengthen Vienna’s midfield in the long term.
Head coach Hans Kleer explains:
“With Max, we have signed a young, technically gifted and strong-playing midfielder who brings great potential and also fits perfectly into the team on a personal level. He has already demonstrated his qualities during the training camp. With us, he now gets the opportunity to take his first steps in senior football and continue his development. We are very pleased that he wants to pursue his path together with Vienna.”
The 19-year-old German stands at 1.85 metres and brings physical presence, game intelligence, and top-class football education. A large part of his development took place in the youth academy of the German record champions, whose jersey he wore for over ten seasons. In the current campaign, he made five appearances for Bayern’s reserve team. The Starnberg-born newcomer also featured eight times in the UEFA Youth League for the Munich club.
Max Mergner on his move:
“From the very beginning, the talks with Vienna were extremely convincing. The club has great tradition and a clear plan for my development. I’m really excited about the new challenge, the team and the fans – and about taking my next steps here.”
