Cup Quarter-Final Kicks Off the Spring Season
Finally, it’s time to get back on the pitch! After a long and intensive winter preparation, our women’s team will play their first competitive match of the year this Saturday. In the ÖFB Women’s Cup quarter-final, Vienna will host SK Sturm Graz. The match takes place on Saturday, 14 February, at 4:00 p.m. at Sportplatz Hirschstetten.
New Faces at Vienna
The winter transfer window brought several changes to Vienna. Goalkeeper Pia Piplits retired, and four other players-Isabell Schneiderbauer, Klara Gorges, Lara Felix, and Aldiana Amuchie-also left the club.
On the incoming side, Vienna strengthened the squad. Talented goalkeeper Vivien Grabenhofer joined from Neulengbach, while Linnea Strömberg, a creative midfielder with international experience, signed for Vienna.
Cup Results Overview
Sturm Graz began their Cup campaign with a derby against local rivals GAK, which the Bundesliga side won 5:0. In the second round, they faced SCR Altach, winning a tight match 2:1.
Vienna opened their Cup journey against FCM Traiskirchen, winning comfortably 3:0. In the next round, they faced traditional rivals USC Landhaus and prevailed 4:2.
In the last two league encounters between the teams, Sturm Graz came out on top. In the Cup, Vienna aims to take the opportunity to avenge those previous matches and secure a place in the semi-finals.
Head coach Mark Dobrounig on the upcoming Cup tie: "We’re all very excited that the season is finally continuing after the winter break. We want to attack in the new year and give our best in every match, and the Cup is no exception. The game against Sturm Graz will certainly not be easy, but we know our strengths and are confident we can advance to the next round."
