Fresh Momentum at the Vienna Amateurs
There has been plenty of change at the First Vienna FC Amateurs during the winter break. The squad has been deliberately rejuvenated with a clear objective: creating more space for talents from the club’s own academy and enabling them to take the next step in their development.
Promoting Youth, Creating Pathways
The personnel overhaul is part of Vienna’s clear philosophy of introducing young players to senior football at an early stage and developing them sustainably. All new additions come from the club’s own youth academy (NWZ) U18 team, with the majority born in 2008 or later.
“We want to enable our players to transition into adult football as early and as professionally as possible. Our task is to provide them with the best possible education and show them real perspectives, both with us and for the next step up,” explains Vienna Head of Youth Development Nermin Jusic. “This pathway is a central part of our identity and our responsibility as a development club.”
Development First – Opportunities for Everyone
The focus lies on the early integration of young talents into senior football, combined with individual support and targeted development for each player. At the same time, more experienced players are given the opportunity to gain match practice in higher leagues and continue their development there.
Particularly pleasing: the chosen “Vienna Way” is already showing results. In recent years, several Amateur players have made the step up to Vienna’s first team and are now receiving regular playing time. Currently, Moritz Troindl, Santino Pistrol, Kelechi Nnamdi, Felix Nagele and Vincent Zeidler are part of the extended first-team squad, confirming the successful development pathway from youth level through the Vienna Amateurs to professional football.
Vienna Amateurs head coach Gökce Tuna adds:
“When players take the next step, we see that as confirmation of our work. Departures are therefore a deliberate part of our philosophy—whether to the first team or to higher-level clubs. At the same time, we are once again integrating several talented youth players into the squad, and we are looking forward to seeing them in action in the spring. The targeted development of young talents and the assumption of responsibility define our identity. Beyond that, our goal remains clear: to achieve the sporting maximum with this young team and secure the best possible position in the table.”
