Successful Start to the Spring Season in Döbling
In Matchday 15 of the ADMIRAL Women’s Bundesliga, Vienna hosted Neulengbach at home. After a dominant first half and taking the lead shortly before the break, the Vienna women remained in control in the second half as well. In the end, it was a deserved 1–0 home victory.
For the spring opener in the ADMIRAL Women’s Bundesliga, the Vienna women welcomed USV Neulengbach. Head coach Mark Dobrounig opted for fresh impulses at the start of the league campaign and placed his trust in the two winter signings, Strömberg and Laaksonen, from the outset. Compared to the cup match against Sturm Graz, Hahn was unavailable.
Vienna Take Early Control
The hosts started actively and dictated the game from the very beginning. As early as the 10th minute, Osl created the first dangerous moment after a corner, but her shot went just over the bar. Vienna continued to control possession and kept both the ball and their opponents moving.
Set Pieces Provide First Threats
Another set piece caused danger in the 18th minute: Seidl got on the end of a corner but was denied by the alert goalkeeper. Despite clearly controlling the match, truly clear-cut chances initially remained scarce.
Seidl Deservedly Puts Vienna Ahead
Shortly before halftime, Vienna rewarded themselves for their efforts. In the 39th minute, Laaksonen switched play intelligently to the unmarked Seidl, who kept her composure and calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 1–0.
Almost a Double Strike Before the Break
In the 45th minute, Vienna nearly made it 2–0. Pfanner broke through down the left and found Lueger in the center, but her effort sailed over the bar. With a deserved lead for the Döbling side, the teams went into the halftime break.
Neulengbach Start the Second Half Bravely
At halftime, Vienna’s coaching staff made a change, bringing on Kerschbaumer for Sarac. However, the opening minutes after the restart belonged to the visitors from Neulengbach, who came out of the dressing room with renewed energy and increased pressure. Vienna weathered this phase unscathed and gradually regained control.
Vienna Regain Their Dominance
The first real scare came in the 54th minute when a cross from Fankhauser took a dangerous deflection toward goal but ultimately drifted over the crossbar. Just minutes later, Pfanner made another attacking statement. In the 57th minute, the winger cut inside from the left and laid the ball off to Lueger, whose shot narrowly missed the target. Shortly afterward, Strömberg was replaced by Höcherl (58’). In the 60th minute, Pfanner once again tried her luck from a promising position but shot just over the bar. By this point at the latest, Vienna had clearly reasserted control of the match.
Big Chances Go Unused
In the 72nd minute, the 2–0 seemed imminent: Lueger set up Höcherl perfectly, she rounded the goalkeeper, but a Neulengbach defender cleared the ball off the line at the last second. Just a minute later, another major opportunity followed from a corner. Osl rose highest, but her header crashed against the post.
Vienna Miss the Chance to Seal the Game
Vienna continued to press in the closing stages. After a quick counterattack in the 83rd minute, Osl got a shot away but sent the ball just over the bar. Also in the 83rd minute, coach Dobrounig introduced fresh legs, bringing on Havel for Lueger to see out the lead. In the end, it was a deserved 1–0 home win for the Döbling side.
